Talking SIlly Moonroof aero Question.

YeS SILLY AND I DO MEAN SILLY BECAUSE WELL ITS SILLY ...

LMAO having a little discussion with a friend about my moonroof .

he says that when its up . it may actually give some downforce ..

Now the angle of the moon roof when its up does kind of give it some downforce maybe.. and its in the way of the air flow ..

but is it even usefull ? its centered in the car so it would it push down at all since it would be distributed more indirectly ? or would the big hole it creates just cause drag ??

yes its a silly argument feel free to laugh or contribute..

It probably causes lift because it disrupts the flow of air over the car.

I think you mean drag , But in definition downforce is a form of drag LOL

stock car already causes lift LOL I think it would depend on where the air comming in from the moonroof hole flows .

If you think of the car as a wing, realizing the air on top has a longer and more turbulent path, and it's design creates lift then you can see how the open roof would create more of the lift characteristic to the general design.

Spoiling airflow over the top of the vehicle could only create more lift. I think.

Even if it does, I doubt it's anything measurable or worth the penalty in disrupted airflow. I wouldn't go trying to drive on the ceiling with it open or anything.
