Question should i sell???? ($25K cash)

today another guy came up asking what price i would let the rx7 go for, like usual i said at least $25K.
i thought the figure would scare him away but he jumped all over it.
i dont really want to get rid of it, but i just wanted to know what you guys thought about it. and if i did get rid of it,
what kind of car costing around $30K would you replace it with that would even be close to the same level as the rx7.

info on my car:
94 white 5 spd w/ 40K miles
greddy intake, bonez downpipe and high flow cat, racing beat catback, power fc w/ commander,
boost controller, street clutch w/ aluminum flywheel, professional tuned to 14psi, 99 spec front end, everything else
stock and in great shape.

what do you guys think if you where in my position

would you keep it?
or would you sell it and what would you get to replace it?

is your car a touring or base?

If its a touring then sell it. If its a base then i would consider holding on to it. A white base is probably the most sought after color combo FD IMO, along with a 94+ black R2.

Nobody who does their research is going to pay $25k for a mildly modded FD. Better take it while you can. You can always purchase another one much cheaper and then pocket the rest of the money.

This.

Although damn 25k is def tempting if someone came up to me with that offer, there is just so much blood, sweat, tear AND time into my car for me to give it up lol

In the end i prob would but would get another VR but already everything done lol

For $25k I would sell it and build an "ultra" track ready FD from a roller. Nothing really compares to the FD experience for < $50k. G35/350Z? Just say no....

Maybe I need to visit Charleston

I wouldn't sell mine for 25K. Its a white 94 pep in very good condition, with 67K. If you don't need the money, don't sell it.

well the guy also said he would sweeten the deal by throwing in his 95 daily driver integra....
(the guy just got a huge settlement and wants a fast sports car asap)

the car is a touring model.
i spent $19K 4 years on the car when it had right at 30K miles. i have invested probably $6K not including regular maintenance, so really i wouldnt lose any money on the project overall.

after searching all over autotrader, there is not another car that even interests me (maybe the supra, but its only good in straight lines IMO)....

i really dont have the time to spend on buying a shell and building it up, and im too attached to this model exactly the way it is(except the stock wheels), even though a killing could be made taking advantage of this guy and then just build a twin to what i already have.

so i guess what it comes down to now is if i have the patience to live without an rx7 for a couple years until i had more time to build an all-out project.

Its really up to you and whether you are in it for the long haul. If you aren't then $25k is a pretty good price. I wouldn't say you'd be making a killing as its really hard to replace an FD in excellent condition. There just aren't that many available.

As for replacement, the only interesting used cars I see in that price range are:
- Porsche Boxster S used
- Porsche 993 (last air cooled 911)
- Corvette C6

I suppose you can add the S2000 or NSX to that list but those cars seem too bland.

There is nothing new in that price range that I'd consider as a 'replacement' to the FD. The NC Miata is a pretty cool sports car in that price range but not a sports car with the iconic stature of the FD.

You can only get a run down POS NSX for 25,000. No thanks for a 3.0L 5 speed vs an FD.

A nice NSX is around 35,000-40,000 still.

OP: Keep the car.

In todays market you'd be insane not to sell it for 25k and the buyer clearly doesn't know the market.

Merry Christmas

i like newer nsx's, the ones with the 6spd and i think 3.2L.
but they are way to pricey for what you get, the old affordable ones are fugly IMO
(especially compared to an FD)

im sorry for this thread, i hate reading posts that its should i do this or that, where its ultimately left up to the owner(who probably has already made up his mind),
but i really want to hear your guys honest opinions.

NE Rotary - I'm friends with Ernst at RX-7 World in Rock Hill SC. He does better work than Rotorsports in my experienced opinion (former aircraft mechanic). He could build you one heck of a car for $20k, you wouldn't have to lift a finger. He has a few rollers he could sell very cheap. Granted you wouldn't have the same desirability of a '94 with low mileage but you would have a serious performer. Depends on your priorities, mine is performance, not collectability (and I don't see FD values going higher, although they seem to be stable). I would cash in.

1) Sell it
2) Buy another FD
3) Fix new FD, the right way
4) Profit?

It's a daily not a track car....

search for posts by me for the track version ;p

Not a fan of the AMG body style, I think mercedes' are ugly as hell, but that's just my opinion. And chances are you have some fanboy at the track that can't drive them. The ///M does great if you can drive... but then again, so does a civic

Less than that now, I've seen them for 22k in decent condition, if you're spending 30k, you'll get a well taken care of m3. A lot have been coming off lease, and stealerships want them. I'd trade it for a 335i if they had an M series.

Still OP, for 25k, you'd be a fool not to let it go. If the buyer knew better, 25k could get him a pretty decent 20b converted FD, and then some.
