Screamer pipe?

Im deciding if I should get a screamer pipe on my 7. Anyone have experiences with how loud it is? There isn't many 3 gen videos out there so I'm wondering of its a good idea. Would you guys do it yes or no?

Also would this be something I can do my self or should I take it to someone? I have BNR stage 3's

It's loud. It's louder if you're ported.

I'm ported and single turbo. It is very very loud. I only did it because it would have been a little annoying to recirculate after I changed the manifold. For the way my car is built, it isn't that out of place.

If your car could be considered "mostly stock", don't do it.

I have a street port and the car is pretty modified. Is it something you regret?

You need an external wastegate or in rare cases a divorced down pipe that vents the internal wastegate to atmosphere (never seen one for FD's) for a screamer pipe. Your BNR's are not really setup for a screamer pipe to be possible. There is one guy that has recently fitted an external gate to the twins but its not easy by any means.

Thanks for the Info man, I guess ill think about going for a screamer pipe if I decide to go with a single turbo in the future.

I'd never heard of a screamer pipe either. Is this something that you should order at the same time as the under-body lighting kit and starter-pack of car stickers to save shipping?

To wrap this all up -

A screamer pipe or a dump pipe is typically just a short tube coming from an external turbo wastegate dumping straight out to atmosphere.

It's generally a Bad Idea for many reasons -

- It's incredibly loud, especially on a rotary
- You're dumping very hot exhaust gas under the car, this can melt or damage things long term

Really, most times it's done because it's VERY easy to make a short straight piece of pipe coming off a wastegate than to have the wastegate go back into the downpipe like it should. In other words, it's done out of laziness.

It would be damn near impossible unless you have a GREAT deal of resources to do this with the twins. Read the thread on the guy who did an external wastegate with the twins, it's an insane amount of fabrication and if it's not done well and properly you just have a mess that's going to crack, melt, and leak.

Sort of sounds like the epitome of all that creates poor impressions of "Jap cars/rice burners", to me. I really can't think of a good reason to do it. And yes, I'm old enough to remember 'dump tubes' and 'cutouts' from the muscle-car era, but that was much different.

I run a 3" magna-flow mid pipe with racing beat single tip cat back and my car is nice and quiet and doesn't sound like a ricer at all- until i punch it then all hell breaks loose. I love it lol

and its the least of my concern... idk why everyone says the WG's dumped it so loud.. among all the other noises our cars make i find it the quietest..

If it is too loud turn the boost up.

Open dump here......

Love it, wouldn't have it any other way.

I did not do it because I was lazy I did it because I wanted it that way.

Nothing better than an open wastegate on a HKS T51R KAI, sounds like a 757.

I was thinking more along the lines of: It's a turbocharged rotary that NEEDS an Italian Tune Up once in awhile, so if you don't want to sound like a ricer (lol), don't modify your exhaust just to make it louder than it has to be.

Laguna Seca's db limit on a GOOD day is 105. I want to play with the STis and Vettes and Caymans, but I don't want to get meatballed.
