Is RX7 daily car ?

I planing to buy one FD, So i just want to know if I buy it ,Can I drive it every day.

Some people buy sport car, Coz they have other car that they can drive every day.
But i'm not that rich.

If u guys have some informationabout how FD consume gas, it will be great.

Thank you

I daily drove my FD for two years a few years ago. Of course I didn't have to go far so it didn't cost a whole lot.

You can learn a lot more about the car at http://rotarygod.com

if you're worried about it then you can't afford an FD. sorry thats just how it is.

we get several of these "buying an fd, need questions" threads a week.

this thread is going to be closed when an admin sees it. check the FAQ section or search for "buying an fd" and you'll find plenty of information

Gas mileage is the least of your worries. You can DD an FD, but you have to be prepared to be able to do a lot of work if something goes wrong (that's just a normal thing with owning and FD, daily driven or not). If you get one, do all of the reliability mods (search for them) and you should be good to go.

I daily drove 2 fds over a period of 2.5 years and all I can say is you HAVE to make a lot of sacrifices in order to make sure the car is well kept and keeps running the way it should. Reliability mods are a must and if it comes down to your comfort/convenience or the cars health, be prepared to be late, tired, mad and covered in sweat if need be.

Man if I didn't have my DD I would be screwed. Not because the FD breaks on its own, I'm just doing work on it all the time. For example, I'm currently rebuilding both the front and rear calipers. So yeah. . . no brakes.

Also don't forget that you'll have a hard time finding a shop that works on rotary on weekends.

How imperative is it that you actually get where you're going each day?

j/k... if properly maintained, and not asked to drive in snow, you should be fine.

If you dont mind spending A LOT on gas, sure you can daily drive it. An FD is a little jumpy for traffic, and its a bit scarry in the rain. Besides that, it will make as good of a daily driver as a twin turbo sportscar can.

If you want a reliable FD, follow this:

1. Replace the radiator with a drop-in aluminum radiator

2. Replace the AST with a drop-in aluminum AST

3. Remove the Pre-Cat and use a downpipe

4. Add a water temp and boost gauge

5. (most important) Leave all the other crap alone. If it breaks, replace it with OEM parts.

I drove my stock FD for years without problems (after a new engine that is). It wasn't until I began to mod the car that things began to fail and/or break.

This is the kind of car you won't be able to "cheap out" on. Parts can be expensive and there aren't really any cheap alternatives. The little things though will go a long way (i.e. spending money on good tires and brakes).

Keep in mind that you are buying a car that's over 10 years old. Things are going to break or fail in some cases just from age.

well said!

You mean spend more on gas then a honda civic. A FD is a sports car, you never buy a sports car with gas mileage in mind because that just plainly means you can't afford it. Jumpy in traffic? How so? Anything can be scary in the rain and in any situation. Know your limits... check your tire tread and air pressure to help avoid that kind of situation

I've DD'ed my 7 for 2 + years now. It's been running good. Just as everyone else says, you'll have to make sacrifices for the car. Keep it stock and it runs like a charm. Make sure you’ve do all the reliability mods and keeping good maintenance going and the car works great. Gas mileage for me has been 17-20 mpg. Haven’t had any major repairs (hose changes, clutch spring, injector rebuild). Treat the car well and it will work fine.

It's easily a daily driver if you can work on it yourself, and have time to.

It can go away for long periods of time if you let others work on it or have to wait for parts.

The best reliability mod you can do for an FD is buy yourself a Daily Driver.

Trust me on this one. It's true.

Thats true. I'm actually working on this myself, once I finish putting everything back in, I'll be able to do it myself.
