Wastegate issue?
Wastegate issue?
After I got the microtech installed I noticed that I couldn't hear my turbos spooling up although I do get full boost (that's not the problem, I just like hearing them spool up). The problem is sometimes I get boost, sometimes I don't and it seems almost completely random. When I don't get boost however the BOV still makes a whoosh when releasing throttle followed by a another KRRRR sound. I know I'm not getting boost because it stays around 5-6PSI and I can hear a very high pitched sound (noticed this after a while). My friend said the KRRR sound is the turbo unwinding. Sometimes I could get boost in 2nd, change to 3rd and then encounter the problem, other times I get full boost in all gears. I hardly get any full boost in 1st unless I rev it to 3k-4k and then dump it. I get full boost in all gears then too.
Could this be because the wastegate is not opening? Vacuum leak? Time for a turbo rebuild or single turbo conversion? If the problem is something small I don't want to have to go down an expensive path.

If you are getting boost in one gear but not in another it suggests that you are not maintaining reserve vacuum and/or reserve pressure in your black tanks. Thus, it may boost fine in 2nd gear but use up the available vacuum and pressure and not allow you to boost in 3rd gear. Check your vacuum lines and the nipples on the tanks to be sure you are not experiencing leaks. You may also want to test your check valves in this part of the system as well.
