Is RX7 daily car ?
I planing to buy one FD, So i just want to know if I buy it ,Can I drive it every day.
Some people buy sport car, Coz they have other car that they can drive every day. But i'm not that rich. If u guys have some informationabout how FD consume gas, it will be great. Thank you |
I daily drove my FD for two years a few years ago. Of course I didn't have to go far so it didn't cost a whole lot.

if you're worried about it then you can't afford an FD. sorry thats just how it is.

Gas mileage is the least of your worries. You can DD an FD, but you have to be prepared to be able to do a lot of work if something goes wrong (that's just a normal thing with owning and FD, daily driven or not). If you get one, do all of the reliability mods (search for them) and you should be good to go.

just dont buy an fd . buy a dd first and then save some money for the fd.

I daily drove 2 fds over a period of 2.5 years and all I can say is you HAVE to make a lot of sacrifices in order to make sure the car is well kept and keeps running the way it should. Reliability mods are a must and if it comes down to your comfort/convenience or the cars health, be prepared to be late, tired, mad and covered in sweat if need be.

Man if I didn't have my DD I would be screwed. Not because the FD breaks on its own, I'm just doing work on it all the time. For example, I'm currently rebuilding both the front and rear calipers. So yeah. . . no brakes.

Also don't forget that you'll have a hard time finding a shop that works on rotary on weekends.

mine's a daily... been my DD for 2 years + LOTS of oil change

Mines a daily, I deal with the sacrifices and have a motorcycle for backup.

How imperative is it that you actually get where you're going each day?
j/k... if properly maintained, and not asked to drive in snow, you should be fine.

If you dont mind spending A LOT on gas, sure you can daily drive it. An FD is a little jumpy for traffic, and its a bit scarry in the rain. Besides that, it will make as good of a daily driver as a twin turbo sportscar can.

The little things though will go a long way (i.e. spending money on good tires and brakes). Keep in mind that you are buying a car that's over 10 years old. I've DD'ed my 7 for 2 + years now. It's been running good. Just as everyone else says, you'll have to make sacrifices for the car. Keep it stock and it runs like a charm. Make sure you’ve do all the reliability mods and keeping good maintenance going and the car works great. Gas mileage for me has been 17-20 mpg. Haven’t had any major repairs (hose changes, clutch spring, injector rebuild). Treat the car well and it will work fine.

I daily drive my FD but I have another car just in case I need to work on it.

It can go away for long periods of time if you let others work on it or have to wait for parts. |
The best reliability mod you can do for an FD is buy yourself a Daily Driver. ;)
