On my car, I run the tank down to 1/4 on the gauge, then add 1 gallon of Denatured Alcohol (you can buy this at Home Depot for like 10 bucks).

*EDIT* Just to be clear, do not use Paint Thinner... or anything else. Make sure the can says Denatured Alcohol.

Obviously, you do not want to boost with this mix in the tank.

If you are having trouble passing an emissions test it helps to post your numbers (I assume you failed already once). Adding the denatured alcohol will help reduce CO (carbon monoxide), but it won't help for HC (Hydrocarbons).

* any time you change what's in your tank, you're taking a risk, so don't be mad at me if it explodes I don't think it will though

Do you have the stock cat and the airpump? Tell us about your setup.

Without a cat and air pump you are very unlikely to pass. The effect of ethanol will be marginal - particularly since gasoline in the US now has 10% ethanol already.

That's good to know as a last resort as I don't use an airpump either. How well does the car run on pure dry gas though? So do you just dilute it out by filling up your tank or do you just keep the rpms low till it runs out?
