running dry gas (alcohol) to pass emmissions

has anyone done this before? i was told to put 5 bottles of dry gas (alcohol based) in when my gas tank when the low fuel light comes on and go get tested in an effort to pass. please pm me if u dont want to post here.

On my car, I run the tank down to 1/4 on the gauge, then add 1 gallon of Denatured Alcohol (you can buy this at Home Depot for like 10 bucks).

*EDIT* Just to be clear, do not use Paint Thinner... or anything else. Make sure the can says Denatured Alcohol.

Obviously, you do not want to boost with this mix in the tank.

If you are having trouble passing an emissions test it helps to post your numbers (I assume you failed already once). Adding the denatured alcohol will help reduce CO (carbon monoxide), but it won't help for HC (Hydrocarbons).

* any time you change what's in your tank, you're taking a risk, so don't be mad at me if it explodes :) I don't think it will though :)

i just did alot of searching this forum and on google and some say denatured alcohol and some say iso. the most common is "dry gas" from the local autozone.

i failed both co and hc.

Do you have the stock cat and the airpump? Tell us about your setup.

Without a cat and air pump you are very unlikely to pass. The effect of ethanol will be marginal - particularly since gasoline in the US now has 10% ethanol already.

Do you guys have e85 out there?

zachg88vert 07-16-09 06:07 PM

CT EMMISSIONS SUCK ive failed twice second time my hose to my air pump fell off because i bottomed out. the first time i failed because i had no cat the second time with a cat and about 3 gallons of methanol (127 oct) but it failed by about half. so im going to put the air pump hose back on agian and see what it dose. this time im making a run up to boston this or next sunday to get some e85 and im going to run that in my tank with gas and hopfully pass. i pmed u about if you need an air pump if you need to borrow it... liek i said if i find a place to "pass" il llet you know ~zach

gonna put cat on but no airpump.

matty 07-18-09 09:05 PM

passed with FLYING colors this time. i put cat on and added 3 bottles of iso alcohol (dry gas) to an empty tank. didnt run the air pump. anyways just wanted to let u guys know what works.

That's good to know as a last resort as I don't use an airpump either. How well does the car run on pure dry gas though? So do you just dilute it out by filling up your tank or do you just keep the rpms low till it runs out?

matty 07-19-09 01:09 PM

i diluted right after with 3/4 tank of gas. i will drive real easy run this thru then refill and will rip it again. dont get into boost with the high alchy
