replumb your OMP to its own source of oil

I saw this once before and thought nothing of it, but now that I add some premix at every fill it makes complete since. The stock OMP injects dirty engine oil, why not give the OMP its own reservoir? This adaptor lets you plumb the stock pump to a tank that you add filled with the lube of your choice. Buy it here

Garfinkle has done this , the OMP had to be modified to clear the turbo, he made a tank that holds 3+ qts, of Amsoil 2 cycle oil. All is good.

That is insane! I have been thinking about this since I saw a guy speak about Royal Purple on the 2nd day of SevenStock at racing beat... If you could get your OMP to inject a ashless, easy burning oil from a separate resevoir, you could run synth without any tribulations... sorry about spelling but its really late... I think someone needs a how to on doing this new resevoir mod for omp... what else would need to be done? There is some money to be made here...

**Edit*** I can see the trend now... bright shiny polished aluminium OMP resevoir tanks... hmm where could we mount them to draw attention away from all the other mess in our engine bays...?

Sure would be nice to see pix of Garfinkle's setup. Does he have a FD?

Good modern synthetics have less ash than organic oils now. If ash is the reason you dont run synthetic you need to rethink your strategy.

What advantages are there to running a separate oil tank? Is it mostly so you can inject a 2-stroke oil instead of whatever engine oil you are running? Is the difference between injecting clean oil vs. used engine oil that much? I guess it might be a bit easier to tell if your OMP quit working. Any other reasons?

So you can inject something other than engine oil into the motor, like synthetic 2 cycle oil for instance. The idea is that the 2 stroke oil burns cleaner than the motor oil.

I'd like to see pics too if someone has this on their FD. I heard that it will interfere with the primary turbos oil return line. Probably wouldn't be that hard to make a flexible return line.

Seems like a waste of time to me. Figure most FDs lose the motor due to coolant seals anyway.

There is such a small amount of oil injected, why do we care how clean it burns?

I've got this paranoia of the OMP crapping out
It still uses the stock OMP. It just pulls its oil supply from somewhere other than the engine.

i have the setup, but havent taken any pictures yet. i run castrol synthetic 2cycle injector oil. . . its ashless and all the good stuff like amsoil. . . and you can buy it at walmart. i just put the tank on. . . and its ugly. the paint didnt turn out the way i wanted it to. so its gonna have to be taken off and powdercoated. ill post pics as soon as i can get em scanned. . . . after theyre defeloped of course.

as far as it being a good deal. . . yes, i recommend it to everyone. very easy to do. . . unless you have the stock twins. then you have to mod it some bit. but still worth it and one of those "stupid but good upgrades".

analyze your engine bay first to see where you can put a tank. its gotta be at least 6 inches above the omp.

rock on!!!!

by injecting hot oil that has been cycled through your engine several times into the combustion chamber you run the risk of injecting several tiny metal particals into your engine.

2cycle oil is made to burn and you are burning a NEW oil all the time. if its hot its just from the heatsoak. . . itll flow better that way.

I've seen Garfinkle's and it is truly a work of art. He was explaining it to me and it just made so much sense. He had to do some modifications like with the BNR Stage 3's he has...he had to turn the unit around (pump) so the wiring harness of the OMP wouldn't hit (from what I remember, it was also 3am so bear with me). When I go down to M'boro I'll ask him if it's ok to post up a picture.
