Removing Wastegate

First, I have done a search, but looking through EVERY wastegate thread is a little unrealistic, but I did check the porting ones.....

At the moment I am in the process of porting my wastegate. I have the complete turbo assembly off, and in half. The problem I am having is removing the wastegate from the turbine. I have everything off, it will just not pull out. I have tried WD40 and such, and no luck. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance-
Ricky

you don't need to removed the wastegate to port it. Just take the arm off from the flapper door. There is a small clip holding the arm on.

I just got done doing mine a couple days ago.

Are you having problems getting the turbo cartridge seperated from the exhaust housing?

Garfinkle has pulled the wg door out and put in the prespool door in the wg position . The prespool door is 1/10 inch bigger in dia . so it can be done . He has a bigger door in his manifold than the prespool door . The port is1.860 inch dia . This is on the BNR set up no one knows about .I think you can port the hole with out removing the stock door to 1.24 inch dia .

I was reading that there is some benefit to removing the entire WG from the turbo and porting the underside of the WG to help decrease turbulence and increase airflow through the WG opening. I'm sure people have removed this before. Is it just a matter of the catridge being seized to the turbine or is there another reason why the turbo just won't come apart? I pull my single turbo apart all the time with no problems. I just want to verify that the stock turbos are held together essentially the same way as a standard single turbo.

take out the bolts holding the straps in place (i'm sure you already have)
Gently clamp the exhaust housing securely in a vise. Use a soft face hammer to tap the compressor housing until the cartridge comes free. Switch sides and angles of tapping frequently. Be smart, don't go beating the crap out of your turbo, but it may take some "persuasive" taps. That worked for me.

You dont' "need" to do that.

I usually just plug up the exhaust side with towels.

It's a bit safer to port if you removed the cartridge but i think removing it is a risk too.

We did all of these things that you mentioned. I just wanted to make sure this was the proper procedure before I continue to beat on the turbine housing. Thanks for your help. I will continue to beat on it and it should eventually come loose.

you might try heating it a little bit. Becareful not to drop the cartridge when it finally pops off.
