Removing Air Pump

Hello
I have a good understanding of how to remove the airpump from reading various how - to write ups etc..

I was just wondering tho, if i were to remove this will this cause my cat to brak appart ?

I was told by a shop that if I remove my air pump it will cause my cat to get destroyed? is this true? and if it does break appart (the honey comb looking stuff) could this have any harm on my engine or turbos or will it just shoot out the back?

I do understand that the car will not pass emtions,

My current mods are DP,CAT BACK,Intake

Its solely for emission purpose. recycling some of your exhaust gas to reduce exhaust output but increases your intake temp (although that doesn't really matter since the intercooler will reduce the air temp).

i took mine out right after i got the car. its been 2+ years. Also none of the race car FD's have it. So unless you're worried about smogging the car, (which you should leave almost everything stock) or else i would take it off.

It helps the turbo dissipate heat better. not to mention you can actually see your turbo

If you take your airpump off with the mods you've listed your idle and throttle response at low RPM will go to hell as the car will run too rich through the low RPM band.

As a side note. . .there really isn't anything wrong with trying to minimize pollution! It's easy to pull well over 300 RWHP in these cars with smog pump and passing emissions tests. Just a thought. . .

I have already been down this road with my car years ago. The main cat will eventually clog if its left on the car without a functioning airpump. Any benefits of a disconnected airpump (less parasitic drag) are counter acted by an overly rich condition. To make guesses that "The ECU is smarter than that" is not a way to give good advice for a guy with a problem. You will get all kinds of answers on this forum. Lots of Newbie RX7 owners who think they are experts already. PM me if you have anymore questions.

ok so by removing the air pump this will cause the car to run rich..
y is this a bad thing all tuners in Japan run their cars rich?

also whe you guys say idle is messed up
do you mean the idle becomes higher or does it become lower?

Here is a question. Is it a requirement to have the ACV in order to run the airpump? My buddy had me remove mine(acv) in addition to the EGR when we were simplifying the sequentials. I never bought the greddy pulley kit, so I just left the airpump on to act as an idler pulley and capped it off. I have 500 miles on the motor from a previous owner, and I have driven it 2 since installling it in my car. the a/f gauge shows rich, and the car is stumbling at 1500 RPMs at about 15mph pretty bad...breaking up...not sure if this is because the airpump is removed, or because the TPS is out or because the gas it over a year old in the car...

if you take off the airpump your idle will bounce.. i mean like 800-1k rpms up and down.... i dont know how but my mech kinda fixed it.. it would stay at about 900-1k now after a tune it stays around 890 to 1k.. and it really dosnt bounce anymore
