Rebuilt ABS Pumps

Has anyone had experience with a rebuilt ABS pump from A1 Cardone? Apparently they rebuild them. The part number is 12-22115 and they indicate that it is for S/N's 200251 and higher. They refer to it as the "ABS Hydraulic Unit", but there is no photo. I don't know what else it could be besides the ABS pump assembly though.

My `93 is leaking and if tighting the bolts on the unit doesn't help once I get my FD running again, I'll probably take the chance on the rebuilt pump.

Autozone and Oreilly's have it their online system, but no prices or warranty info. AutoPartsgiant.com is the cheapest online-only vendor I could find. They've got it for $489.95 + $50 core.

This might be a cost effective option for those who want to retain ABS, but don't want to fork over the $1000+ that Mazda wants for a new one. If the rebuilt unit comes with a decent warranty - that would be even better.

Dude, just get a good used one. Leaking ABS pumps are actually VERY uncommon, and you should be able to pick up a good used one for a VERY low price - I would reckon under $100.

PM FritzFlynn - I bet he has one in stock.

Well - just thinking ahead - eventually the used ones will probably be leaking too.

Plus - I would assume the rebuilt pump would have greater reliability, long-term, than the used pumps.

My ABS pump was leaking a while back and I looked for quite sometime into sourcing new seals for it. Never found anything. I bought a used ABS pump and removed the seals from it to install into my known good (but leaking) pump. All is well but I'm with you on the fact that I just put old seals in and it's only a matter of time before I have the same problem again.

If you end up taking your pump apart send me a PM. It's not bad as long as you keep some things in mind.

Just get one from a low-mileage car. IMHO, having a downpipe helps, as that greatly reduces the heat it sees.

Really, they don't fail enough to justify spending THAT much on an ABS pump. Get a good used one, get it going, then spend the extra money on things the car really needs.

^ Rubber seals get hard and leak from age, not miles.

I'm with DamonB, I looked into rebuilding and disassembled the entire unit. No luck, the o-rings are unique in size and shape. I just went and found a used one in very good shape. No problems since. If your ABS pump is leaking around the base (which is the common source when thay start to leak) then your pretty much screwed and you need to replace they entire unit with a) new unit (very expensive) or b) a good used unit.

I think I paid around $150.00 shipped for my used pump. Good Luck.
