Looks like a decent price if their work is good. I would also ask them if they replace all coolant and fuel lines as well as cleaning your injectors.

Price doesn't look bad at all.
But, I would highly recommend new silicone hoses, it's a lot easier at this point than after the engine is completed.
Also, take a hard look at the clutch. Much easier now than later.

I had my rebuild done at http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/ He pulled the engine, removed my emissions, street ported, 3mm apex seals, non seq. conversion, and re-installed it for way less than that.

$75 is bloody cheap for a specialist shop. Where the hell do you live?

That actually looks like a damn good price.

While they're in there, think about getting polyurethane motor mounts, s/s oil metering lines, an oil pan brace, a new fuel pulsation dampener, new thermostat, and a new clutch fork.

I generally do the same job for a bit over half that. Of course, I reuse a few of the internal seals/springs that they list there, but there are some parts inside that wear almost none and do not really need replacement unless you have money burning your pocket.

Also, I do not mark up my parts much at all above my wholesale cost; for instance, the mazda 2mm apex seals they are selling you for $470, I can supply for $280. The gasket set they sell for 600, I sell for 300. I also work cheaper; their labor is $750, mine usually figures closer to 500...their streetport is $450, mine is $300.

For a meduim or large shop their prices are actually pretty fair. Doing things my way generally allows the customer to replace more important parts such as fuel system, clutch, hoses, etc. rather than throwing all of the money at the internals which is often unnecessary.

$500 for a gasket set and $470 for apex seals is a good price?

i need some of you guys as my customers.... you can just put money into my pocket while i work!

they make it look like the costs are lower than they are by using fair numbers for the engine R+R and rebuild labor but where you are getting the assraping is in the cost of those parts.

^^Karack is right. When I said the price was good, I meant the bill as a whole. It looks like they're charging full retail for parts. They're also not including a lot of oem parts that I like my customers to get with an engine job, like coolant hoses, fpd, intake/y-pipe/exhaust gaskets, fuel diffusers/grommets, clutch fork etc (assuming they are all original parts).

many of those parts are omittable and in place put in new rotor housings.

just my personal opinion though, i'm sure they will hit you up for those once they tear apart the engine regardless of their condition since they know they already have you bent over the table with tear down costs.

mazdatrix has OEM 2mm 2 piece seals for $52 each, try Ray Crowe at Malloy mazda for the gasket kit.
