Question Rearview mirror fixes for FD??

I've done a search for rearview mirror fixes but couldn't find what I was looking for.

Well how do you tighten up the rearview mirror, so it wouldn't need adjusting every 15 mins of driving.
Mine seems to be warn out somehow, and it needs to be pushed up every so often while driving or if I go over some bumpy roads.

Well, if any one knows how to replace just the glass without having to buy a whole mirror, let me know. The silver backing on mine is coming off around the edges and a little in the center. It looks like brown water stains

I never found a way to take them apart, mine had the same trouble and I replaced it.

Seems to get inside the mirror you must remove the glass but I couldn't do that without breaking it.

If you look on some Japanese FD used parts/new parts websites, there is a Mazdaspeed or other company's rearview mirror replacement that would be good. It's got a carbon fiber look to it and I think it was about $80 US or something, can't remember. Anyhow, as far as I know almost all FDs have those brown "water" stains on them or do not stay tight very well. (well at least FDs from 93-95)

Here it is:

It turns out it might be $160 because you'll have to get a different attachment unless you have a "type 4" mirror, whatever that is. Anyhow, it's not that bad of a price coming out of Japan.

If you end up needing to replace your rearview mirror you might consider buying the $200 optional one from the 2003 Miata with its autodimming feature.

My Jeep Cherokee has one like that and I had already been studying it to see if it would fit the FD. I think the Miata's is only slightly wider than the FD's OEM unit and would fit easily. You would need a very low amperage switched electrical connection which is easily available from the overhead light.

Will a Miata rvm fit? My FD rvm has a mounting base that is unlike any other I've seen. Will any other rvm work?

Don't get me wrong, I haven't tried to install a non-OEM rvm, but IF I ever have to replace mine or the windshield (again) I'm definitely going to check it out. A good glass shop could probably answer all the questions about doing such a swap.

yeah that's right, didn't think about talking to a glass shop yet. Maybe an aftermarket one will work

I have the problem before.
if you only want to fix your rear mirror you can put some cement into join (It cement is for fix screw) and it will not fix it forever

Very true. If you buy it from JT he will explain its only available for the 99 and up mirror. WHICH none of the companies here in the US even know of or say, they just sell it and it wont fit..........

So Jason hooks it up, good deal too, IMHO
