Rear Caliper Bracket stripped

Evening folks.
I was finishing a brake job today and on the last wheel (right rear) the bottom bolt on the caliper bracket wouldn't snug to torque. It didn't snap, just kept spinning. Before you ask, I referred to the FSM for torque specs. Upon removing it I noticed I had a good half inch of thread on the bolt. It kind of looks like there was a Helicoil in there but I'm not sure.

Stock rear calipers and/or brackets for our cars appear to be impossible to find. I checked Atkins, Mazdatrix, Rock Auto etc. Anyone have a lead on one or have one sitting around that they would part with? Sent a message to Ray Crowe but figured I'd try here as well. I can probably have a machinist install another Helicoil but would prefer to just purchase a replacement bracket if possible.

Cheers

Yeah rear calipers are NLA unfortunately, I don't know of any good source.

Used will be the way to go.

Most likely it was fixed with a Helicoil at some point.

And some people thought my rear caliper rebuild how-to was unnecessary a few years ago. Then, rebuilt rear calipers were readily available.

I would rather rebuild the originals even if refurbs were available. The originals are better quality, I think.

Installing Helicoils is easy. Just get a kit from your local auto parts store or online (McMaster-Carr, etc.). An auto parts store may even loan you the tools with a deposit. I don't remember the thread size offhand, but others may know it. There are also solid threaded inserts if the hole is enlarged too much.

I agree! That was the reason I chose to rebuild mine! Folks were replying that it was easier to buy rebuilt units. I can't believe that was around 6 years ago!

BTW, my rear calipers have preformed flawlessly since my rebuild, and that includes a couple years before they were actually put into service!
