The reason I ask is becuase I know theres three ignition coils. The two trailing and the one leading. Also theres the ignition harness as well as of course the wires and plugs. But is there anything else thats also part of the ignition system? I called malloy mazda inquyiring about a ignitor and ray crowe didnt know of one.Thanx guys.

Yep, it's at the back driver's side corner of the engine bay. It's a finned aluminum box.

If you have cruise control, it will be underneath the cruise control unit at the back driver's corner of the engine bay as Dale said. It can be hard to see if you have cruise....

crank angle sensor? hmm ill have to look into this.Anyways I do have cruise controll.I think I know where its at.Underneath the cruise control on the inner drivers side fenderwall.hmm i wonder if this could be the culprit behind my backfiring and decreassed throttle response.

Yeah, the ignitors are pretty hardy - dunno if I've ever heard a case of them failing. I'd check elsewhere first. Double-check the hose to the map sensor!

well besides the fact that my airpump is shot and has been for a while coupled with the fact that my tps is also not good im sure this could be the contributing factor.

If your tps is out of spec that is the problem, or at least one of them.
