Pull the entire rack out. Its too much work to try to get the screws out in the car.

No. You will have to pull the coils, disconnect the fuel lines, and oil filler neck but its not that bad. The rack is held to the motor with 12mm head bolts. Should be 4 of them and they bolt directly to the rotor housings. I take the whole thing out and do the vacuum hoses on a workbench. I can do it in the vehicle too but don't enjoy bending over it for that long as my back is wacked from martial arts.

Remove the solenoid rack from the engine its the best option. If the rear screws become too stripped for the screwdriver I used a vise grips to clamp the screw heads and turned them out.

Thats another option. I can usually break those loose with a small pair of vice grips. The right way to do it is with an impact screwdriver but there is no way to get at the back ones with the rack in the car.

I resorted to cutting a deep notch in the screws with a dremel, then using a large flathead bit attached to a 3/8" socket wrench to break the screws loose. Lots of PB Blaster also.

You can get the impact screwdrivers at Home Depot.

Still isn't worth a **** to remove the rear screws because there isn't room for it.

Pull the whole rack.

update: so i just pulled that bitch out last night. and i can tell someone tried pulling it out before but failed miserably. cause there's bolts missing and one of the 3 bolts that connect the rats nest is broken and is still stuck in the rotor housing. and they're not all socket screws they're Philips so im going to go to the hardware store and purchase some replacement bolts and such don know how and if im going to replace that 3rd bolt thats stuck on the housing but an interesting tid bit the first solenoid that connects to the green connector is totally fucked so i need to get a replacement one. it was just floating around and heres a pic hehe.

broken bolt

When i took the coils off to remove my rats nest, I found the same problem. One of the 3 main bolts that hold the rack on to the motor was broken off. It seemed that is was sturdy enough so i am not going to worry about it. I wonder if it is a common problem? The other two bolts came out fairly easy. Can you tell me which one of the bolts was broken (location). I cant remember which one of mine was broken. I will check soon.

John
