"Rally Style" headlamps - install in progress

So I've been intermittently working on the car for the last 2 weeks... Fixing exhaust leaks, oil leak from front left cooler, replacing oil drain line from gt35r, wrapped the manifold, installed Tweakit idler pulley, heat shielding, etc. etc.

As I've been working I kept thinking about how much I want some aftermarket headlamps so that I can reroute my intake to the front right corner and isolate it from engine bay heat. The downside is I'm a student now, so I have like $0 to spend on FD stuff .

One night I decided to clean out all the stacked up boxes in my garage.. and what do I find at the bottom of a box? Over $200 in Amazon gift cards! (I have been getting them from relatives for Christmas for the past few years).

SWEET! So I log onto Amazon in search of car parts, and what do I find? Some headlamps for less than $190!

http://www.amazon.com/93-97-MAZDA-RA...8446189&sr=8-1

They got here today and after some light trimming of the base, I have the front right mocked up. They look great and install is really quite easy. I just need to wire in the halo wiring and the front right will be done. Isolated intake here i come...

I am in no way affiliated with amazon or the company that sells those lamps, but at that price, I would HIGHLY recommend picking them up.

(ill see if I can find a camera to snap a couple pics)

I can't think of a single, goodlooking FD with those lights. Sorry.

they sell that kit on ebay... for $50 less ($145 shipped)...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=380175990818

definitely not worth it though. i've seen these on an FD in person and they look horrible.

Worst headlights made for the fd period, single worse thing you can do to the car other than the old veilside kit.

Not to mention... isolated CAI isn't going to make as much difference on a boosted/intercooled car as it would on an NA.

You're already compressing and therefore heating the air post filter and a heat exchanger is more efficient the greater the difference in temperature.

Not to say you shouldn't do this, but I would eat my hat if it made any real difference.

As others have said. Those simply look cheap. Even if the piece was quality, the design is horrible for the lines of our car.

As mentioned.... a cold air intake isn't as relevant with a turbo car. If you want to decrease your intake temps, look into water injection. Howard Coleman has an EXCELLENT thread on this. I suggest you read it.

I can't say anything that hasn't already been said, horrible headlights (search around the forum, there are other cars with these headlights), and water/meth injection will do much more for lowering intake temps than an enclosed air filter. And the best part about the AI kits, they're not much more than those headlights!

Little known fact: "Rally" is often used interchangeably with "frog" in certain areas of the country. True statement.

Examples:
Yum. These "rally" legs taste like chicken.
Dude, that "rally" has an extra leg. Is there a waste site nearby?

I thought he was talking about real "Rally" lights:

And fwiw, this thread has very little to do with the actual install of the lights.

You forgot the most critical step of the installation process. I'll outline it for you to make your life easier....

Step 1: Purchase Rally style headlights from amazon
: DONE

Step 2: Wait patiently for the ugliest headlights in history to arrive: DONE

And here is where I think you went wrong. See you installed the headlights onto your car..... You completely missed step 3....

Step 3: Throw Rally style headlights and packaging into the nearest dumpster. NOT DONE

Step 3 has not been complete, please read the instructions more carefully next time

I will provide a visual assistant for your convenience.

ahhhh after all that tough work treat yourself to a nice refreshing beer (assuming you are of legal drinking age)

Seriously though, if you're legally blind, you probably shouldn't be driving a sports car. You obviously can't see how ugly those headlights are.

Nothing to hate on.. just speaking the truth. the lights are horrible and probably the worst looking lights ever made for the 3rd gen.

You already got them so might as well install them.
