r134a conversion all the specs

ok well tomorow at my job im gonna be doing this with the help of one of the techs. I currently have a 93 touring with what im guessing is a leak, because the damn thing is blowing out hot air. Now to the kit i was thinking about buying this,

http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...p-8367/c-10101

since it has the oil in it and the leak sealer. But then i was also considering buying everything separate, like are the fittings in that kit compatible with the r12 fittings on my rx7 because i can buy those in a seperate package, only one 19oz can of the r134a, and maybe a can of the ultraviolet leak stuff. They also sell for 5 bucks a package of o-rings of all different sizes. Does anyone know what size our system requires if they need to be replaced?

I have a professional set up, all accurate guages, full vaccuum system. I mainly want to do this so that there is a clear cut set up for the conversion with exact amounts of all i used. I wasn't really able to find a clear cut install procedure and my tech has already done this on one of his cars.

The 2 FD's I've owned never any problems with the A/C's leaking so can't point you to anything specific; '93 w/r12 and current '95 w/r134a.

But since you seem to have access to all the tools and an expereinced tech you might consider using a colored dye to locate the actual leak(s). Could be a simple o-ring replacement, or of course the compressor ...

If it were me though I'd just feel better knowing I really fixed the leak. Just MHO.

i had a leak on my 93 and bought a freeze 12 kit, b/c i didnt want to go to a shop to vaccum out the r12 and convert to r134a.

it took me forever to find a r12 hose, cause i ddint want to retro fit it to the freeze 12 valves, but i finally did it today and it blows out nice cold air.

Just a thought... If anyone needs r12, many home air conditioning companies should have plenty of it. I believe they are still allowed to have it. I'm sure if you ask them they would be helpfull in letting you fill up your system or they might even be able to do it (all a/c systems are principally the same) for a small fee. From what I understand r-12 is colder than r134. I lost freon when i was replacing my engine so I asked a friend of mine (who had an a/c company) if he had any r12. Sure enough he did. I'll be taking my car to his shop pretty soon.

Why not just buy the later-94/95 parts and do the conversion properly?

ok well my tech said screw the parts conversion, he did the conversion on his chevy pickup and it worked fine from r12 to r134a. On to the conversion, yesterday I visited autozone and advanced auto pars trying to find the fittings for the car, the only fittings they had were for gm cars. So today I get out of work and headed to the pep boys, i thought the gm set was gonna work but they had a non-gm r12 to r134a kit so I bought that instead. Now the tech told me to get the fittings, a can of castrol ester oil charge with uv indicator and leak sealer in case i had a leak somewhere and like 2 cans of r134a. Get back to the shop, first thing we did was vacuum the original r12 out using the matco tools machine, and pulled the system to 25mm Hg vaccumm. We then put a can of the castrol ester oil charge and like .25 lbs of r134a and let the system run a couple minutes. Vaccummed the system again to 25mmHg, then added 1.15 lbs of r134a. The low side of the system read 30psi with the system running and the high side read 225psi. That was pretty much it, it was around 80 today and the vent temp at idle with the car fully warmed up was around 48 when we were adding r134a.

Here are the pep boys parts numbers to help anyone out:
castrol ester oil 7.99 part# 0-39101-06535
2 cans 134a 12oz doesn't really matter the brand
and the nongm retrofit kit 19.99 part # 0-37495-34071 i dunno if thats it cause the printing is messed up. But the kit is by supercool part#7646
