Turning on foglights using stock switch without headlights on?
I've searched for a while and the only thing I've found is how to turn the foglights when the parking are turned on. I'd like to know if theres a way to turn the foglights on/off when the parking lights are on using the stock fog light switch. Can this be done fairly easy? The only way off the top of my head is running a new wire with 12v to the fog light relay from the stock switch. Anyone done this before without running a new wire?

I'm not sure about the FD, but I did this with my '95 Mitsubishi GST. No wiring to the switch or foglight was required, but you did need to change some jumpers inside the ECU. Not sure if it's the same with the FD, but I figured I'd let you know how it was done on another car, maybe it would give you somewhere to start.

I've searched the site a few times and I have never seen anyone do this. I'd like the foglights to be independent from the rest of the lights and be able to turn on whenever I use the switch a la aftermarket lights.
So far its looking like my two options are: 1. Do some re-wiring or 2. Wire up the foglights so they turn on with the parking lights and live with it.

From my '95 diagram, the fog's get their power directly from the fog switch itself. The fog switch get's it's power from the lowbeam's which are switched directly by the headlight switch (HI/LO switch-part).
You could cut the fog switch from the headlights and instead, run a fused (Maybe ~10A) line to the battery. You'd be able to turn them on anytime.

I think there's a law that makes them turn off with high beams. I'm sure it's illegal to run only fogs at night but it can be setup for daytime running lights. I thought I read on some website that someone used the Canadian wiring scheme.

Yea, there's a minimum "headlight" height in the vehicle code somewhere. The manufacturers don't want the low-mounted fog lights to be used illeagally as "headlights" (i.e. primary lighting).
If you do run a line to the fusebox, keep in mind, stock fogs which are 70W total, I believe, need about 6A. It better be replacing something you know you'll never use, or is disconnected. Do NOT change to a higher-than-specified fuse rating (using stock wiring) to compensate.

In order to do it right, you need to tap off of the TNS relay with a second relay. Power the second relay from a fused battery source. The bulbs are 35w. The final power is going to be the wires from the switch to the fog lights. And yes, this is not intended for street use.
