question on water pump removal
Trying to remove the water pump to install an pettit fan switch. I know, I know, it can be done without taking the water pump off but I did not realize that until I had loosened the water pump and broken the seal so now I have to put on a new gasket.
I've removed alternator, air pump, intercooler, support member under intercooler, etc.
The only thing left is 3-4 insulated wires that run in front of the lower metal tube intake portion of the waterpump. I hate these basturds.
Do I need to disconnect them? Two of them look to run into the rats nest area.
Any tips would be a big help.

Those are the oil metering lines and the wires for the OMP. There might be a thin metal bracket that holds them to the water pump housing - it's bolted to the housing itself.
Once you get it loose, just ease it forward and double-check things. Those lines/wires are brittle, and if they break or anything you're in for a LOT of work.
Might also help to get a good light in there and an inspection mirror so you can really see up in there.

I thought those lines were for the OMP. I did unbolt the metal bracket that had them strapped under the water pump but they still seem pretty tight, and I have to pull the pump off the studs a good 4 inches or so.
There just is not that much slack in the wires.
Do they look link they're in the stock location? The original owner was very intent on keeping everything original and I saw no signs of him ever removing the water pump or doing anything other than change the belts and other normal maintenance.

If you're just going to take the pump off, you shouldn't have to disconnect the OMP lines. If you plan on taking off the housing behind it, you have to remove the lines on the OMP side... at least that's what happened to me. I ended up just taking the entire thing off and replacing the gasket for both the w/p and the housing. I think cantgostraight mentioned this somewhere (do a search), that there is a possibility of compromising the housing gasket when you take off the w/p and it is good practice to replace it too... so I did, no leaks
Off go the lines I guess.

here's a pic:
EDIT: BTW, I have a spare BNIB gasket for the housing (not the W/p) if you want it for cheap.

^^ I'm impressed. I had previously stripped a bolt on my OMP so I was pulling the whole thing anyways.
Here are some pictures w/ torque specs so you know what you're looking at. I think you're gonna have to get the lines and the electrical plug off it in order to get your housing out.
I dunno though, it just seems easier to pull the whole omp (3 bolts w/ 1 small gasket) to me. I'd be concerned about getting the electrical plug OFF the bottom of the OMP b/c the oil pipe is RIGHT there.
Your call I guess.
Hope it helps!
