Question regarding Donations for FD Registration Info

As many of you know, we successfully rounded up $750 through 30+ forum members to retrieve FD registration statistics which would give a state-by-state count. We also raised this amount of money in a weeks time which was amazing in itself.

I was asked by several members who were donating whether or not we could get more localized data than just the state level. So, I asked for an additional quote for having the statistics for every county in the U.S. There are 3,142 counties in the U.S. and this would provide information on how many 93,94,95 rx7s are in each county.

I've attached the quote which I just received this morning.

Question is, is it worth it to open up donations again to get $500 more to get county by county data? I had seriously expected the quote for this proposal to be a lot more than $1250, so I figured I should definitely ask everyone before I spent the $750 for just the state data.

BTW: these quotes are good for 30 days.

I think what Dale was referring to was in the history report back to 1992 instead of 1993, that would have expanded it to show how many 1993's were registered in 1992. That would only be included in that last quote for $2300, which is out of our range.

The other reason I mention this is that there were some members who didnt even know this was going on and said they would have donated if they had known.

Also, it was mentioned that this county info would be helpful to members who live in larger states like calif. and texas. Personally, I'd like to know how many are in a 50 mile radius, and thats what you could determine with this. I would think that rotary shops would also like to know this too.

I wouldn't mind going for the county by county. I'm more than willing to throw in another $25...

I see no value in this data because my guess is that all it going to do is track population density, e.g, if there are two big cities in a state, then most of the registrations will be concentrated in ZIP codes for those cities. In CA, nearly all of the registrations will be in the Bay Area and LA.

Other people seem to place some value in it though. I would love an example of how it gives any extra useful knowledge because I seriously can't think of a reason to get it.

Perhaps you should start a poll?

I say state by state showing years of the RX-7's registered is plenty.

I don't want to wait any longer...YOU ARE TEASING ME!!!

My reasoning is that there are so few FD's here and it would help to localize them.

I think that this can not hurt but the main point of this was to figure out how many Rx7's are ACTUALLY left. Then we can feel special, raise our asking price, and everyone wins.

I bet it would be a function of population density and median income for any given county.

? if you refund donations from paypal for the extra 500 to reach the new goal do they still charge the 3.5% or whatever to return money?

I would say open it up for donations for a predetermined amount of time and the people will speak with their money if they want this.

As interested as I am for the extra info, I also don’t see the real benefit of breaking it down that far. Most people that want to hook up with FD brethren will and have done so naturally through the forum and other means.

The 92 – current I think would be a very very interesting bit of info, but I agree I don’t see this happening, as much as I would like to see everyone just throw in 5 bucks and get this very valuable piece of info. I have my reservations that it would happen…..but hears hoping we go this direction.

i agree with rotarypower. i'd rather much see a 1992-2006 year by year registration statistic than static county to county counts.

on the other hand the info we're getting is already enough i think. then we can do another countrywide count in a few years.. it would give us a better idea of the trend of the # of fd's...

Should look like a watered down inverse square function. Less and less on the street. Less and less knocked off the street each year. Eventually delta-y(change in # of cars) should level out as they become collector cars and they are driven and wrecked less. I'd guess were about halfway there.

Yep.

I'm definitely in for a county by county breakdown. Talking about the 92 - present breakdown is a moot point, since it's considerably out of our budget. This county to county breakdown, however, is just a bit more money...

Well since we only had a few positive responses for county-by-county, I'm gonna call to order the state-by-state data today.

WHOO WHOO!!!

maybe set a date next year, and for those who want to donate...toss a couple bones to the account. Preferably by check, that way paypal won't take 3%, and see if the community can pull the $2300

Thats a great idea. I dont think there's any doubt that $2300 could be raised in a year to get the 1992-present statistics.
