Question about single turbo simplified engine harness modification

I am deleting:

8x rats nest
OMP
air pump
anything else emissions related

My question is regarding all the ground wires. Can you simply splice all the ground wires together? You end up with several grounds in the same area. some black/white stripe, some are brown.

Is there any harm / draw back to doing this? I have searched and read every post I could find and have not seen this question answered.

For that matter, I wonder if adding additional wire for a chassis ground could help in any way.

thanks in advance.

Typically you want the shortest distance to a ground wire, or are you talking about the calibur of he wire making it bigger?

i keep finding junctions where a bunch of ground wires meet. Ill make it work. Before I posted this, I wasn't sure if all these ground wires met at a junction or if they were individually pinned.

As far as adding a ground wire, I am wondering if it would do any good to add supplemental ground. An additional ground wire going to the chassis or firewall, etc.

Don't assume anything, and read the Mazda wiring diagrams carefully.

If you don't understand how to read the wiring diagrams, spend some time learning or find someone who can help you. The General Information section of the wiring diagram is a good start if you have no experience reading wiring diagrams, it's only 20 pages long.

Most of the rat's nest solenoids have a B/W wire (black with white stripe); this supplies 12V power, not ground. If you splice any of the B/W wires to any of the BR/B wires, it will cause problems.

Thanks, appreciate the info. I had read they were grounds, but just found a follow up post:

thanks!!!
I will read the EWD when I get home.

I am at work now... can you answer a couple question so I know what I am in for when I get home and start working on it again:

I have already removed all of the colored wires from the 8 rats nest and from the OMP. I pulled these wires all the way back to the firewall point of the harness and they were not spliced into anything. 1 yellow wire was tied into another, so I left that alone fore now, but I assume I could just cut it at the point it is connected to the other wires.

As for the black w/ white stripe wires that I thought were grounds ... I guess you can just cut them all off at the point they tie into the main wire that comes from the ecu connector and branches to all the other connectors. I remember finding one (i think IAT connector that I will have to reconnect since removing the rats nest wires.

ground wires are solid black and have ring terminals on them. stop trying to ground **** that isn't supposed to be grounded.

there was nothing wrong with how mazda had the grounding set up, just make sure they are clean and tight.

Mine (2 grounds w/ ring terminals) are black w/ white stripe just like the 12v rats nest wires.

As far as additional grounds: I have read posts about insufficient grounds causing various problems like hesitations, boost problems, misfire, tachometer, odometer, etc. Hence, I asked if adding an additional ground to the engine harness was a good idea while I already have it in my hands. Maybe a lot of people just have bad/dirty/corroded contact surfaces.
