Problem: Gas Smell from front of engine by injectors.

Background:
I am getting a gas smell from the front side of the engine....right under the UIM. I am guessing it could be an injector or something? The smell happens at idle, and also when the car is off. I also still have a boost leak (9 PSI boost).

I have been going through and updating gaskets all over the place.....and I think I am going to update all the gaskets that deal with the fuel injectors. Here is a list of the gaskets I am replacing...let me know if I should update anymore that aren't on the list.

Things being updated
Fuel injector o-ring kit
http://atkinsrotary.com/store/catalo...t-p-16923.html
Pulsation Damper
http://atkinsrotary.com/store/catalo...r-p-17534.html

How about the primary/secondary injector diffusers and the gaskets associated with them? Any other gaskets?

I do have the non-seq stock turbo system.

Thanks!

I think you'll find that when you fix the injector O-rings, your fuel smell will go away, I know mine did.

You can jumper "F/P" and "GND" with the key on (engine off) to help you diagnose the leak. You can do this with the intake manifold removed for easier access.

Also, the non-teflon stainless steel fuel lines are known to let gas vapors ooze out the lines itself. A lot of v8 guys with these lines complain about fuel smell in their garages, as well as very short life span on these lines less then 5 years.

Sounds like your running stock rubber lines so doubt this would be your issue. Good luck.

By the way if you don't know, these cars have a history of catching on fire from leaky injectors etc., so best to fix before driving.

Thought he was posting about replacing its gasket(s) and not the unit itself.

Just circling back to let you know what the problem is/was.

The problem was from a loose connection between a soft line and the fuel pulsation damper. I replaced the squeeze clamp used with a new one and added a worm clamp as well.

Simplest fuel leak case ever reported on these cars. Haha.

I would replace those hoses. The squeeze clamp plus grip of the hose should be more than adequate to prevent leakage. Adding a hose clamp is only a temporary solution.

Those fuel lines are very reasonably priced as part of the fuel line recall kit.
