Power Steering and A/C are overrated.

While cleaning up my car and putting back together today I found the p/s a/c mount broken!!!!

Oh well, guess this means I can't run with the belt on those accessories for now. This won't harm the steering or a/c system will it? Doubt it.

I know the engine's dirty, it's a bad camera too.

I will be removing the p/s and a/c system soon. But in the meantime, will it cause any damage to anything if I just ran the car without the p/s belt?

What does the p/s system have to do with the oil pump system, I don't understand that part.

there wont be any problems, just some more muscles on your arms. its very hard to turn while driving at a low speed, but when you're going fast, it really doesnt make a difference. i know a lot of guys that took the p/s and a/c off and they had no problems at all, just more room in the engine bay

The manual says the p/s pump doubles as an oil pump???

From this picture, I don't see how it's even connected to the oil system

Yeah ... the way that Mazda built the car, it's like they wanted to make it easy for someone to remove the idle pulley, AC compressor, and PS pump assembly if they wanted to. It's just tacked onto the side there and even the main drive pulley for it is in front and will come right off. You won't do any harm like 7sweetie said, and the PS system has nothing to do with the oil system. The PS pump is a power steering "oil" (fluid) pump.

hmm thats weird, if it doubles as an oil pump, you think that something else would be pumping oil also. I dont see it connected either, i mean it may be connected to the oil line, but that doesnt necessarily mean that its pumping oil

Cars are not that hard to turn w/o PS! I'm pretty skinny (6'3 172lbs) and I have had no problems turning my '70 'Cuda's steering wheel. That is with a 7.2L cast iron V8 resting on the front wheels. Even if I'm not moving at all it's really not that hard to turn.

No P/S is damn annoying.

My brother's AutoX Integra GSR with no P/S irritates the hell out of me!!!

Oh well.

Hey Brede, I found a place that has some of these mounts. I'm going to buy one in hopes I won't have to go without p/s. PM me

I went w/o the p/s belt for about 6 months, then finally put it back on. I liek ti with it on if the car is a street car. Its a lot better with it off at an autocross, but trying to park and **** gets to be real annoying. It was getting to where driving my car was a chore instead of a joy, so I put it back on and now all it good I wish there was a way to turn it down a little though.

My power steering pump seized on me a while ago, so I cut off the belt.

It wasn't too bad, because I drove around for quite a while before finally putting it in to get the pump replaced (under warranty).

I broke a sweat parallel parking one day..jeez, that was a nightmare.

I'll try to get mine welded first.. I live in Norway and it takes a lifetime to get the parts over here! Surely it must be possible to weld the bracket back together!?

power steering racks weren't meant to be used as a manual rack so be carefull you don't snap anything turning at .5mph.

Hey Gordon, would you happen to have a picture of this setup. Just curious to how it looks.

I finally started up the car after 6 months of hibernation. But didn't get as replacing the bracket even though I already have a replacement.

So in the meantime, when I do drive the car, I get no assistant from the freaking pump.

These tiny sticks masquerading as arms of mine are simply not up to the task of turning the god damn wheels.

Now combine that with, a Stiff suspension, short throw, 6 puck clutch, and a small cramped car, it can REALLY get on your nerves.
