power is going down.... help!

hey guys I would like some help to find what is the problem with car.... total newb haha

ok so like a week ago i thought it could be a boost leak, so i took a look at the intercooler piping and i found nothing... but i went to my local shop afterward and we did a pressure test thru the intake and we couldn't find any leak and the boost gauge is reading 10-11 psi, which indicates me that the boost is good. So this is not the problem... but when i accelerate is still hear a wind noise coming from the engine bay... any ideas?

thank you

Tighten all the bolts on the intake to the Throttle Body, and all the bolts on the UIM.

1)check to see when your BOV is venting air. if it is opening to early then you should replace it.
2)spray some water on top of the throttle body to intake elbow and check for leaks under throttle. their is an o-ring there and can be a problem

If you're getting 10-11psi at the UIM then you're getting full boost and leaks are not the problem. You need to look into things like ignition, exhaust restrictions, and maybe fuel. If your shop has a dyno then see if they can put a wideband O2 on it to verify you're getting good fuel.

Also check your tranny and diff oil to make sure something isn't going funky in there. I've heard of failed diffs causing substantial power loss without any other obvious symptoms.

Does it perform just generally poorly, or is it bucking and hesistating?

My HKS bov has like 3 months of use... but i noticed that it doesn't blow as much as it used to do. The sound is less powerful and sometimes when shifting at decent rev it doesnt even blow at all! I'll check your option 2 when i'll have time!

- I don't think ignition could be the prob, im running new plugs.
- My seven is still using the stock exhaust piping, except for a Trust Ti catback
- My tranny and diff are probably ready for new oil... i guess the factory oil is still in there

and the car is just performing poorly to tell you the truth!

If you still have the original precat, it is probably clogged/disintegrating. It may also clog the main cat as pieces of it separate. This would explain the power decreasing.

Boost usually goes down with this though. But it's definitely something to do if you have the stock precat.

Dave

I had the feeling that maybe he was seeing the 10-11 on the primary, and losing power after transition. Maybe I understood that wrong.

hmm so it might be that my precat is falling apart... but could this make a noisy woosh sound while stepping on the gas? cuz that's what worries atm!

oh since my bov was making a strange fluttering, i decided to take it off and inspect it... but everything seems to be perfect no apparent damage whatso ever....

You're right - that's a possibility. But he still hasn't really told us much about the boost pattern. That would help a lot.

Dave

Im sorry Dave... but i don't have the boost gauge yet... I borrowed one from the shop.... it's on top of my things to buy list tho!

I really don't know the boost pattern the car is pulling... all i know is, the guy said the boost read 10.

Anyways this is getting annoying as i can't drive the car atm! I'll do whatever's needed to get the damn car fixed!

Oh and what about the fact that the BOV is not blowing much air anymore? I doubt the bov is leaking... could it be a vacuum prob?
