Possibly buying an FD need help

Ok well tonight I looked at a black 93 R1. 69 k miles on the original stock engine... black excellent paint, new tires... interior was great sept for the shiftnob which had the leather removed because the previous owner didnt like it. One Owner only. Engine bay looked fine except for one small little area with white gooey stuff that looked like caulk. Didnt see any vaccume lines popped off or anything... really really clean both interior and exterior. When I walked up to the car it had been sitting there a few min on, Idle was steady at around 7-800 rpms I couldnt get a close look. it was somwhere inbetween perfectly still. There was a bump every few seconds or so from the engine( I think thats normal? ) Brand new clutch. IT was snowing out so I couldnt get quite the test in I wanted to, I didnt get to drive it because of the leather...no problems what soever sept for one of the lights inside. I had him turn off the engine
waited about 20 min or so and restart it... it didnt start right away... but he said he didnt have the clutch in all the way( Im going to test this again when I drive it on saturday) but when it did start it immediatly balanced out at a smooth idle. I think I got most of it... the only thing that worried me is that this guy was in his 20's.. hes a car broker basically... he seemed like a normal crazy 20 year old guy. He wasnt very bright when it came to driving. He owns an 850 hp supra and buys cars from all over the states and brings them back here to sell. The car had no license plates, and he said he bougth the car with an open title?????? not sure what that means.... thats about it... price was 17k obo so I can prolly getit for 15-16 k.... what do u all think?

well, most rx7 owners are in their 20's,
thats just the way things are.

I would suggest NOT trying to decifer if it's in good condition on your own, unless your a mechanic, you really dont know what your doing.
Test drive it, and if theres nothing glaringly bad about it, take it to have checked out by someone who knows rotaries.

And get the vin# and RUN A CARFAX, especially
if he mentioned something odd about the title.

Aside from that it sounds good,
that idle is a clue to a healthy engine
rx7's sometimes have problems starting
also dont pay 17k for it, 15-16 would prolly be ok tho
good luck

Leather? Do you meen Suede? I don't think that they produce an R1 package FD with leather. I could be wrong but I don't think so. I paid $16k for my 93 R1 with a fresh Pettit engine and few mods. If it's really clean and taken care of then $15k or so would be good. Good Luck.

Exclamation

Take it somewhere and get a compression tests done. See if you can take a look at the hoses to see what kind of shape they are in.. Make sure there are no leaks from the car.

Check the lines of the car, where body parts meet up. Make sure there are no uneven gaps from a wreck or anything.

Check for a second oil cooler and a strut tower brace to verify it's an R1. It's possible that someone ordered the car special and it's an R1 with leather seats (or replaced the seats), but normally R1's don't have leather.

If it has a rear wiper, cruise control, and/or a sunroof, it's definitely not an R1.

As far as the starting thing? That would worry me a little. My FD never has a problem starting.

Well, you have to remember that he's a salesman. He's going to give you an excuse why the car didn't start to make sure he can still get a sale.

See if you can make an appointment with a shop to have a compression test done on it. If he won't let you take the car to get it checked out, it's not worth it.

Also, see if you can check for the second oil cooler. If it doesn't have one, sounds like it's a Base model, not an R1.
