Porting the wastegate?

I am planning on installing a mid pipe in the near future. I have a dp, rb single cb, hks intake, and PFC. Is it necessary that I port the waste gate? If not, what are the repercussions? Would installing a boost controller and dialing down my boost act as an alternate solution to boost creep/spike? I am basically trying to ensure the safety of my motor. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

it depends on how many pounds of boost you are running. as you may have read in other posts similar to this, spiking and creeping occurs when people try to run 12 psi with a mid pipe and no control. porting the wastegate is an option if you are getting creep. If you're running on the stock intercooler then it wont take more than 12 psi before it starts detonating. It may be time to swap in a new intercooler. also if you're mechanically inclined enough, check to make sure all of the actuators are working properly, a sticky wastegate actuator could cost you some apex seals

I know people who have had a mp without porting the wastegate and the boost doesn't hold at 12 psi... in fact i've seen it creep up to 15+! IF I was to get a mp with stock twin turbos, I would port the wastegate, and also upgrade my fuel (bigger pump, larger secondary injectors) and also have that power fc tuned.

Do a search for porting the wastegate. I brought this up about a month ago and there is really good write-ups and pics. I recommend porting it if you are going to run a midpipe just as a preventive measure.

I have a DP, MP, CB...on mine and I have not ported the wastegate. I also have a Cosmo 20B pump with 1300 secondary injectors..so I don't know. I haven't had any problems.

Thanks for all the help. I think that I might just hold off on the mp then. I don't have enough for an aftermarket intercooler at the moment. Is it ok to just get the boost controller and dial down the boost to prevent spiking? Or can I just set it at 12 psi because that is the most that the stock wastegate is able to manage?

So it would be safe to get a boost controller and set the boost low enough to compensate for the boost spike? That way you can be sure that the stock wastegate can handle the excess boost? Thanks for the help.
