Pics of my custom IC setup (was ASP/M2 large)
I've nearly finished my custom IC setup. It used to be an M2/ASP large, but I got tired of its horrible fitment in the following areas:
1) hot and cold pipes rubbed PS banjo bolt and other metal parts
2) angle on hot pipe wrong on both ends & not flared
3) duct fit poorly from day one, looked crooked, rubbed hood prop
4) duct fit even worse after a mazdacomp radiator added
5) relocated battery a nuisance - wanted a mini under the hood
6) nothing held the IC in place - it continually walked away from the duct making it ineffective. I made brackets to hold it but they too were wearing the core
7) core getting holes rubbed in it from cross brace and hood
I took the best part of the kit (the Spearco core) and modified the setup to cure all of the above and leave plenty of clearance all around. The tricks were I had to move the relay box, and I still have to modify the duct. I am going to cut and mend the M2/ASP duct to fit the new angle. Fortunately, it doesn't need to look good, it only needs to be functional because it will be entirely hidden by the IC core. Aside from the duct, another planned addition is grinding the logo from the Greddy pipe and giving it a wrinkle finish like the other pipes, and probably adding a fan to the core.
The cold pipe has 3 bends and the hot pipe has 2. The bends are pretty large in radius so I think their impact is insignificant to performance. Three of the ends have nice rolled lips, except one on the hot pipe, which I had to get a bead welded on.
Some of the pics are before the relay box relocation and a few other minor tweaks.

Wade, it's great to see you are still out there. It's been years.
The car looks great. That's an interesting solution to many of the problems with the large core intercoolers. I would expect nothing less from you.
We have another FD in Charleston.
I picked up a fairly pristine Montego Blue 93 model and have been using it as a daily driver for the last month.
I'll soon park it to protect from salty roads, but it's awfully damn nice to have one to drive on the street again.
My red car has been track only for the last 3 years, but I may put a plate back on it and use it some next summer.
I'm not sure what my plans are for the new one, but right now, just enjoying it is plenty for me.
Let's meet up for a drink or a meal sometime. I trust you remain with your lovely wife.
It's funny that we both registered at this place about the same time and have similarly few posts. How can a guru (like you) that helped so many people have so few posts? I tend to stay away from here because, as everyone knows, with so few posts there is no way I have any useful knowledge about the FD.
Here's your new neighbor (at VIR mere days after I got her)

Thanks for all the nice comments guys!
Goreify: The pipe finish is just krylon wrinkle finish. This would have looked beautiful polished, but I just don't have the time to polish it and don't want to mess with the upkeep. I can easily chemically strip the paint later and polish if I feel so inclined.
Kwerks: Your setup looks very similar - I like it. Your core and endtanks are different - the bottom is more narrow and the taper at the top is a bit different as well. You're proof that my mounting idea isn't exactly original.
Aharada: I cut and fit the pipes and had a local shop weld them. The IC is still stock mounted. I might go with a V-mount setup in the future, but to be honest I'm not sold on the idea. All the setups I've seen put the radiator fans too close to the ground for my taste. I will likely leave it as a stock mount, however I'll probably add a larger snorkel to the front of the IC duct (and of course the fan mentioned above).
KaiFD3S: You must be thinking this is a V-mount setup. This is a stock mount and the radiator doesn't need to be moved.
WVRX7: Nice to hear from you! It might not be obvious from this thread, but I'm trying to make my car more stock-like, civilized, and easier to maintain. I'm planning to put a metallic cat on it and fix the A/C next year. Maybe a quieter exhaust if the cat doesn't quiet it enough. I bet you're loving that stock one. Tell me more about it, where'd ya get it, how many miles?
I've hardly done anything car related in the past 5 years, most of my hobby time has gone into coinop video games and pinball machines (I have a gameroom in my basement) and also home improvement projects and maintenance. Also, the BIG news, is we have a beautiful 8 month old girl now too. You can imagine where all my spare time goes now!

Damn you, Wade. Daaaaaammmmnnnn you!
j/k, of course. I've been working on a similar setup for a little while and had hoped the 1/2-V-mount would be a new configuration... And this guy beat you to it, as well.
How is the rear of your IC supported? I currently have a shelf that holds it about 2.5" above the crossbar. Hoping that this will improve the radiator's airflow.
Also, where did your relays end up?

John: The radiator exit is far from ideal, but this configuration is basically the same as the stock setup or the M2/ASP setup. Dropping the radiator a couple of inches would probably help, but this is a street driven car and doesn't have overheating problems, so I probably won't change that.
Eggie: I wish I were the first, there have been plenty of other similar setups over the years. At first I thought it might need a support on the rear, and a simple bracket riveted to the back of the IC (that row is not a charge row) and bolted to the cross brace would do the trick. Once I had the pipes tightened down, it was apparent that no extra support was needed. Like yours, the back of mine sits about 2.5" over the cross bar. The duct will likely contribute some support to it from underneath as well. The relays ended up inside the airbox. The wires had to be extended about 16".
