pettit flares and spacers

I really want to get pettit flares, however I cannot afford to get and paint them and buy new rims.

Could I mount them and use wheel spacers to fill the gap temporarily? If so where do I get the spacers?

Thanks for the help.

Here's a crazy idea....wait until you can afford to get the flares properly installed and painted and the new wheels/tires at the same time.

Yes, they do make high quality 1" spacers and that should work.

Getting the flares without a real reason, is pretty ricey. If your not making 400+ rwhp, and having a lot of problems hooking on the street, i can not see you needing the flares at all. Definately dont run the flares with stock wheels, that would look odd.

Where can you get the 1" spacers for an FD?

Spacers over 1/4" would require longer studs. An adapter can be used to switch bolt patterns, or to act as a spacer of a larger thickness.

thanks Jim.

Mazda: 626 (88-on), 929 (88-on), MPV (89-on), Tribute (01-on) <- you think these would work anyways?

The link I posted is for the correct spacer. The FD bolt pattern is 114.3mm x 5, which is the same as Ford's 4.5" x 5.

Thanks Mom for the helpful insight. Maybe he likes the look of the flares. I see the point of Rynberg's post but not yours.

You can get a 285+ rear tire on without flares, there really isn't any need for them unless you want to go with some 335's on 12"+ rims. Not to mention they look ghetto!

the flares add about 2.25" of space on either side, so a 1" spacer will still look rather silly. i'd say wait until you can get the correct setup, or are making enough power to require them.

This is a long shot but I bet those a spacers aren't hub-centric. Is it possible to use the centering rings with these spacers or will it even make a difference?

He doesn't have wheels and tires that require rolling the fenders or flares. He wants to get the flares and space the wheels outward to fill them until he can afford wider wheels.

I also agree that 1" spacers will not be enough. I'd guess you would have to at least use 2" ones. But I also do agree that getting the flares without larger wheels is a little strange.

yea so instead of flares he gets the fenders rolled so it doesn't look soo odd and his spacers will fill it very well even when he get bigger rims and tires.

It seems like I have a lot of people who agree that without having the proper size rim, there is absolutely no use for the flares. If he is looking for a visual enhancement without getting rims, this is definately not the place. I am only trying to help.

this is just my opinion here and I'm not flaming, but I think that if you can't afford to even paint the fender you should not get them at all. FD's break all of the time: save your money for a rainy day.
