Pettit Downpipe, is this normal? Weld inside DP

i just received the Pettit Downpipe i ordered from the rx-7 store and it looks a bit weird, it has something welded inside the pipe.

it's on the Downpipe to Maincat connection.

in one of the pictures you can see the weld on one of the sides, but there's no weld on the opposite side

if you look closely there's a bit of a gap between the welded part and the pipe itself

do you guys think this would restrict flow?

has anyone seen this before in a Pettit DP? is this normal? ill post some pics to show what i'm seeing.

I'd like to know your experiences with Pettit DP's before i install it.

thanks

Not a shitty weld but I sure have seen better. Looks like a Flux welding job (messy).

ummm... im sorry. but those are some shitty welds. they look like 110v flux core welds from a cheapo home depot welder done by a rookie...

I would expect clean TIG welds from a place like Pettit. even no name Ebay downpipes have higher quality work than those.

Im a certified welder, so i kinda know what im lookin at.

It's a downpipe...
As long as it fits and doesn't leak then coat it, wrap it, and call it a day

If it works it works. Why be fancy?

+1 I agree. I have a pettit downpipe and i was also not happy with the welds. I know that is is a pettit because i talked to cam myself. My DP looks exactly like that one even with the spatter. I have had it on the car for six months and no leaks. I also would expect MUCH better welds they do look like a rookie was practiceing (sp?). Although i am no professional welder i really beleieve that i could have done better, and i think that is what annoys me the most. I know you cant see it when its in the car, but i know its there and thats what matters.
