Overall cost of reliability mods?

So at this point I'm still set on buying an FD, but was wondering around how much I'll probably end up paying for the reliability mods. I probably won't be able to purchase all to start with, but I want my 7 to run as long as possible so I plan on buying these before other performance mods. I'm just trying to figure around how much cash I need to set aside from what I'm putting on a down payment.

And I'd be doing all work myself, so labor costs are not needed.

Thanks very much

should "search" forums keywords: reliability, reliability mods etc.

most reliabilty mods would include, downpipe, ast, fan mod, boost gauge..

btw faq's are very useful..

dp- 100-200
rad- 300-500
IC- 700-1200 depends on brand, size, etc
mp- 80-150 or more if you need a hi-flow cat (not really nessicary) if you go mp you'll probably need a boost controller of some sort
catback 250-400
pfc 1000+
hosejob 70-100 depends where you buy the silicone hoses and how much u need I guess....
boost gauge around 100
ast 100+
intake- depends

budget 1000 incase stuff happens........

add it all up and you get............................
oh by the way, you can search for pricing on rx7store.net
and see recommended reliability mods:
http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/stages.html#REL
and in the stickies..
Search noob hahah j/k
most of my pricing quotes are used. just be patient and you'll fin da good deal.
I suggest the hose job as #1

not all of those are needed, but just giving you an idea anyways
and dont forget about the fluid changes.

Out of your laundry list, only the downpipe and AST are considered "reliability mods". And downpipes usually cost over $200 new.

Yeah sorry about not searching, I'm sure this is brought up all the time. My comp. is just really slow and it takes forever to look through pages for a certain bit of information, so I just asked.

So what I'm getting is a good place to start is boost/water temp. gague, ast, radiator, new hoses, and a downpipe. I was actuall figuring like 2-3k, so I guess I'm in better shape than I thought and could actually get a few basic mods.

Someone feel free to correct any incorrect part of what I just said

Here's the REAL reliability mods:

*downpipe
*boost and water temp gauges
*fan mod or even better, 89-91 FC water temp thermosensor
*metal ast

You only need to replace the radiator if the end tanks look like they are corroding, which is probably likely. There is no point to ******* with the rat's nest and replacing all the hoses if you have perfect boost and you don't have fuel system issues.

You can also ignore the fan mod/thermosensor mod above if you are planning on getting a Power FC in the near future.

I know I'd need one eventually (my goal's pretty much only 300hp. That's all I realisticly need for now), but how long do you think I can go without it? I mean if I don't need it until I start doing mods needing more fuel and engine attention, I can stretch that 1k+ into a few more basic parts like exhaust, intercooler, etc.

Regarding the fan mod and FC thermosensor, they cost very little. If you think it might be a year or two before you get a Power FC, and living in Florida, then I'd consider the at least the thermosensor. Maybe $45?

You're in Fl, I see a lot of FDs for sale there. Just shop around for one that has most of the reliability mods already done. The price for gauges IMO should be a total of $100:
- Autometer boost gauge $40
- Autometer water temp gauge $45
- Dual gauge a-pillar cover $20

Shop around for the autometers and you'll save money. They work just fine for a car with basic boost and temp monitoring needs.

Don't forget that along with reliability mods you need maintenance too:
- plugs
- fuel filter
- plug wires
- oil change
- oxygen sensor
etc

Talking Cost of reliability mods

JMaddness,

Here is an MS Excel spreadsheet with parts list, part numbers, and pricing from the searching I've been doing. It does not have all of the recommended mods, but it's a good place to start.

Just take the mods that people have recommended, visit rx7store.net, look up the parts and their pricing, add costs and qty req'd to the workbook and you'll get an idea of what you will spend.

Note that you'll also have to factor in shipping costs, installation if you don't do it yourself, and taxes if you buy locally.

I have more details of other systems if your interested.

Richard

the radiator isnt a must to change
unless its leaking or you are going to track the car so temps will be much higher than normal driving
