if u're not getting creep now and all u're doing is adding a catback + retaining stock cat you should be fine without porting the gate. anyone disagree
just noticed u have a smic, lets wait for the experts to see if u might need it. but really.. wastegate porting is the only way. boost controllers will not save u from creep

I would have to agree with sevensix you shouldn't have any problems with creep just adding a catback. you really only have to worry when you have a downpipe mid pipe and catback.

You will not have any creeping issues with just a cat-back. The stock cat's inlet diameter is very restricting, which will greatly limit your exhaust flow.
Though, to answer your question throughly, there IS another way to limit creep if you do experience it. Getting a restrictor plate (basically just a huge exhaust gasket) will limit your exhaust flow.

A cat helps to introduce restriction to help manage and control boost. However, when you add flow mods such as a downpipe, cat-back exhaust and intake, you are now flowing more air and this can overpower the stock boost control system which was designed to manage air flow with those restrictions in place.
An electronic boost controller has a faster acting solenoid and different electronics to manage boost more effectively than the stock systems. One of the benefits of an electronic boost controller is that it is not affected by changes in temp throughout the year.
Manual boost controllers are nice and simple, but I often found myself having to adjust them regularly as seasons/temps changed.

Well if you do decide to install a high flow unit.. Restrictor plates in the exhaust seems to work fairly well for other people. It is lame, but its really the only other option besides porting the WG.
Any Novice should be able to port the WG, it is not a hard task. You could do the vac hose job while you are in there too. Amongst other maintanance.

Wouldn't the restrictor plate idea be be contradicting adding the "flow" mods themselves, since it kind of creates a bottle neck for the air, just like any peice in the stock exhaust would? thanks.
also im a little intimidated of porting my wastegate, because i've never done anything that extensive on my car, but I won't be afraid to tackle the job if necessary. wanna help me out with it, Adam?

Thanks Adam, I've been on the market for an exhaust and like i told you before I'm already boosting to about 11 psi. So I thought adding an exhaust would make me overboost, if not start to creep.

There is no need to port your wastegate (or put in a restrictor plate), since you won't be getting boost creep. Lets install the manual boost controller on your car (free), and go from there. Once it is installed, you can put on whatever cat back you like, and adjust the controller easily if it needs it.
