an opinion would do

hi everyone, I'm not going to start that "hi everyone new to forum blah blah", i just recently bought my 1995 silver rx-7 3 weeks ago(bone stock with 87k miles on it =/)recently had a 2001 celica gt-s. Drove it for 3 days and my powersteering belt snapped, replaced it. drove it for another 7 days and my batery went out, replaced it. Now for some reason after i chagned my batery it reseted everything, and my turbos are not spooling as it did before my batery went out?it's only been a day after i changed the batery. can anyone plz help me and tell me whats going on? is it just relearning the fuel maps and everything or do i have to spend more money on this car? First when i bougth it the fun of driving it outweights the maintnance, now those numbers are starting to look even. Thank you.

Hmm. Sounds very strange. First thing to check is that you have grounded the battery well. Hopefully poor grounding is the culprit.

Do not get the wrong impression about this car. These cars need care and maintainence, just like any other high performance car. Take care of the car, and you will fall in love with it. Like I said before the first time to check is that the battery ground is clean. changing out a battery should not affect the boost in any way, other than a poorly grounded ecu.

You might have shorted the flux capacitor when you hooked up the new battery. You can find it on the passenger side. You can check it with a tester.

Well I would rebiult it while the motor is good (no blown apex seal or water gasket). If You do it yourself it would be cheaper than getting a reman. Is not hard to rebuild it if you feel confy doing some wrenching.

I have 124k on mine now. There's a good chance that your engine is fine. Try disconnecting the ground on the battery and use a terminal cleaner to scrub off any corrosion, exposing fresh lead. Sandpaper works in a pinch if you don't have a terminal cheaner. Try that and see what happens. Does your car happen to have a boost gauge? If so, drive to 3rd gear. In 3rd gear at around 40mph, floor the car. your boost should jump to 10 psi. when the secondary turbos come on line, you will see a drop in psi to 8, then it should rebound to 10 all the way to redline. So, essentially you should see a 10-8-10 boost pattern. If you do not, then somewhere along the way you are having a boost problem. When you say that your turbos are not boosting as before, are you just judging this by feel? Perhaps you are only perceiving poor boost or is it quite obvious. A lot of times when sitting in traffic, your i.c. develops heatsoak (especially the stock i.c.)and when you try and go fast, your car will seem sluggish until your ic is able to drop the air temps back down. Hot air = less dense air= less oxygen going itno your engine= less HP. If you have good grounds, and still have an obvious power loss, then I would venture to say that your boost issues and the new battery are in fact not connected. Good luck.
