older jdm y pipe

i was wondering if the Y-pipe on JDM motors was supposed to be plastic, or metallic? I know that the 99 and up version is definately metal. Can anybody verify this for me real quick? I can't seem to find it anywhere on the net. thanks

Its the same as the US y pipe. Only around 99 did it change along with the redesigned Efini aka 99 twin turbos.

crazy, then that means the crate motor i picked up months ago, though it was a piece of ****, had an efini Y-pipe. anyways, thanks

The "efini" Y-pipe came about with the '96 revision. JDM 93-95 cars are more or less the same to the US cars of the same vintage.

JDM cars used the all-aluminum Y-pipe from '96 to '02.

yeah, thats the one i have ^, came off a crate motor, unsure if its the same.

The difference in the piping is the cross-over tube. The early versions (including that one) use a coupler to attach the cross-over pipe. The redesigned version does not use a coupler:
