Ok, it is my understanding..

Hey, been reading more and more, and before I get in too deep, can someone confirm that I'm understanding all of this properly.

The Rotary needs to inject a very small percentage of oil to work properly, sort of like a two stroke. The motor has a built in system, but many people take that out and pre-mix. If you do NOT take it out, are you adding in quarts of oil between every change?

Yes. Oil is injected.
Yes the Metering Oil Pump can be removed and replaced with premixing. (Some people even premix while retaining the MOP, just for safety measures.)
You WILL use oil, but it shouldn't be quarts between oil changes. After daily driving mine for over a year I never had to add oil inbetween changes.

The car burns oil by design. If yours isn't losing any oil, it probably just means you are getting fuel dilution to make up for the oil burned (not something you really want, but these cars do get fuel in the oil). 1 qt in 1500 miles is not out of the ordinary.

AFAIK, rotaries should burn 1 quart every 1700 miles.

The FD OMP injects oil at a varying rate depending on RPM & Engine load The fuel/oil ratio ranges from aprox 150:1 to 250:1 so for a mid load @ steady rate (ie frwy crusing @ 70mph) = aprox 1qt/50 gallons (1:200) and assuming 22 mpg for the same condition = 1qt/1100 miles

fwiw due to bad turbo oil seals mine is consuming 1qt/350mi

And yet I NEVER see ANY oil usage.
I mean none.
I change oil every 1500 - 2000 miles or so, but....
I've never had to add any oil, the level on the dipstick doesn't change.
Now the FC I had I definitely saw the 'normal' oil consumption.
Makes me wonder if my MOP is working, yet the engine runs perfect.
Strange, huh?

I know they burn oil by design... I also know about fuel dilution... But I didn't know the rate of oil usage was that much. Like I said, I never had to add oil... Fuel dilusion was evident.. But I had no idea it was that much. The consistancy and color of the oil never seemed to change. At any rate... Thanks for the info.
