Brake hard lines rx-2 questions.

Alright, well one of the hard lines on my rx-2 was rubbing against my Slave cylinder for the clutch and got a tiny pin hole... so I decided to replace all of the hard lines..

Now the question is, I never done this before.. it doesn't seem to difficult. From my understanding.. you just get the hard line, bend it to its shape and flare the end. Is this correct?

Also, what diameter is the stock hardline? I don't have a diacaliper to measure.

Does anyone have any pointers? Or does somone know a shop in LA area that will do a good job at a decent price? It seems pretty easy to me. Just kinda scared. Last thing I want failing on me are my brakes.. and I already experienced that this past weekend.. scary ****.

If anyone has any links with info, and how to's.. I'd apreciate it. I tried googling for stuff.. but no luck.

thanks.

Go to McMaster.com and check out part number 5176K22. That's the brake tubing you need, and you can flare it with a standard double-flare kit. Borrow one or buy one from McMaster or something (2694A12). It's really easy to do. Just buy a coil of tubing and practice flaring and cut it off a few times. Once you're ready, you just unroll the coil on the ground and roll it back and forth across the floor a few times to get it completely straight. You can then use a mandrel bender (2430A41) to put perfect bends in your hard lines.

Autozone also sells short lenghts of old metric tubing (coarser thread that new cars) that you can buy cheap, cut in half, and quickly get a handful of new fittings cheap. Part No. AZ308 is the shortest and cheapest, but AZ312 and 330 work too.

Thanks crit, would you happen to know the fitting size and where to buy? That way I can just use new fitting instead of having to reuse the stock ones.

Seems like this is going to be my new project for new week.. Need to make sure I get it done before seven stock.. hehe

The Autozone part numbers I gave you come with two fittings each. It's just a short piece of pre-flared tubing. Buy a couple short lengths, cut them, and slip the fittings off. It's the only way I've found to get new fittings, and each piece of tubing has two.

Strongly agree with practicing the double flare before you do the finished lines. You might want to order an extra flare die for the kit. The small flare that you will be using has a tendency for the centering pin to break off.

I have run both new fuel and brake lines on my 7. Not hard, just take practice and patience. Nice thing is being able to use the old lines as templates. Makes the job much easier than having to start from scratch.
