Oil Pressures

Hi guys

Pretty new to the forum and so i expect a bit of flaming but take it easy Pwett pwease!

Iv searched numerous times and still not found what im looking for.
just some simple bog standard reading of what oil pressure should be at:
1.cold idle
2.warm idle
3.cruising
4. WOT

if some1 could give me rough values for a relatively untuned vehicle that would be great
thanks
kieran

It will vary greatly depending on the weight of oil you are using. Give us what your oil is and someone with that weight can respond.

The FSM doesn't give values for those ranges as there are too many variables. Here is the test they have:

https://www.rx7club.com/showpost.php...41&postcount=9

Basically, at 3000 rpms you should have at least 50 PSI.

+1 50psi above 3k warmed up thats the biggest deal, might see 15-30 warm idle and as high as 120 WOT but this all is can very from car to car; long as your above 50 psi @ 3000 rpm the rest is reference.

AHH ohk thanks guys

well iv just bought the car so I don’t know what type of oil is in it. Im in the UK (cold climate most of the time) so what would be a good grade of oil to put in?

only reason im asking about pressures is because my previous car relied fully on oil pressure and low oil pressure was very bad.
I take it its not as important on a rotary?

It is important. However, the oil pump is driven by the e-shaft on the car. As your rpms increase, so does your oil pressure. If you have the minimum requirements for 3000 rpms, then you are fine.

Unless you have a need, I would just use the dino stuff (like Castrol GTX). You can run full synthetic if you like.

Capacity is about 5.5 quarts for the models with dual oil coolers, and about 5.0 for the others. But you'll only get a little over 4 quarts to drain from the pan. The rest is in the coolers.
As for the guage question, you can search. If it's been done, it's not that common.

Sorry, just noticed where your from. That would be about 3.8 liters you'd expect to replace during an oil change.

I do know they make aftermarket oil filter pedestals with bungs for a gauge. You could search for more info on those.
Personally, though a little trouble-prone, I'm just careful to keep the wire connection on the stock oil pressure sender clean and it tells me what I need to know.
