Oil pressure light on

I'm new to the FD3S world and I'm just wondering what the red light in the oil pressure gauge means?

Have you checked your oil level?

I would add oil right away. Good chance, you're running low.

That light is not the oil pressure light, it's the oil level light. You are low on oil.

Seems like you would automatically check the oil when any "oil light" comes on. That isn't really exclusive to an FD

Just out of curiosity, how far down does the oil level have to get before this light comes on? I have never seen it come on, but I always make sure and keep the oil level at or near full.

You could just have a bad sender unit. Both my oil pressure and level sending unit malfunction. If I take sharp turns I can kick the light on and if I give it gas, let off, give it gas, let off, I can usually kick it back off.

I don't know, but is it possible that could that be a pick-up problem in your oil pan, not a sender issue?

Actually, L on the dipstick is approximately 1.7 quarts below full, not 1. The light comes on right below L, I would imagine, so at least 1.7 quarts low.

Yeah; what he said.

When your oil level is just below the halfway mark on the hatched area of the dipstick it's time to add a quart.

You could have 10 oil coolers and it wouldn't make any difference. The dipstick is measuring the amount of oil in the pan. That should be a fixed amount, regardless of how many oil coolers you have. The difference between the L and F lines is 1.7 quarts. Look it up if you don't believe Damon and I.
