Oil Pressure help

I'm having a strange oil pressure problem, for some reason my oil pressure is all over the guage, sometimes it's pegged at the top, other times it will say zero at idel. I have tested the guage, changed the oil, replaced the rear oil pressure unit and replaced the front spring and plunger. Still no luck, before i remove the pan again does anyone have any ideas of what it could be?

If it makes any difference, it's a 95 Red base with a manual trans

thanx for any help

Mitch

the factory oil pressure gauge sucks buy an aftermarket one....mine constantly jumps around because of the bad connection on my oil pressure sender...the factory oil pressure gauge is really a dummy gauge as with the temp gauge to.

I did test the guage thinking it might be that, but the guage is on, and yes as the rpms go up sometimes the oil presure goes way up, like pegged on the guage at just 2500 rpm other times it is below the first line at 2500 rpm.

its the small black connector that plugs to the side of the oil sending unit. its one black wire i believe its a ground wire.. unplug it a clean the contacts with a sandpaper...thats how i fixed my possesed oil sending unit...but the oem oil sender does suck so an aftermarket one will be way more reliable....im looking into buying one myself.

There is nothing wrong with the stock oil pressure gauge. It's the sender that is notorious for acting up.

No. The gauge is fine. And before ordering a new sender clean the old one like revhard suggested. That will probably fix it.

I have an autometer gauge with a separate sender and, when the stocker is working, they show basically identical numbers.

The oil system in the FD is quite good, but with the sending unit being quirky, it does leave room for doubts.
A new sender should keep you in the good for another 55-80, 000 miles, it likes clean oil as does your FD.
A very good article/instruction (above ) at club rx.....
