Oil Pressure

My car seems to have a oil guage or oil pressure problem, not sure what though. I can start my car have plenty of oil pressure, then run my car for about 5 mins and it will drop to nothing, then i will be running down the road and get on it and the oil pressure will jump back up, but not sure if its bad guage or what it is. Any Ideas?

Check the oil pressure sender connection, a lot of times it comes loose and gives a false reading. The stock sensor really is junk.

It's located near the spark plugs, a small little cylinder with an electrical clip connected to it. Also try cleaning the connection, let me know if it helps.

Just went through this same problem. I pulled out the sending unit and cleaned it out (what little bit you can do), cleaned the electrical terminal, and re-installed. Made no difference in the low oil pressure reading. Called Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda and got a new one for $83 shipped. I just installed it last night and the pressure is indicating normal now, even after the car is warmed up. Make sure to ask for Ray though and tell him that you are a member of this forum. The first time I called I got another guy at Malloy and he quoted me $120.

i have a nice aftermarket oil pressure gauge you can have for $25. The OEM has been known to be junk like all the other factory gauges.

If I were to go by the graduated marks on the stock gauge I have the following:
30psi at idle (little higher for cold start)
50-60psi running and under boost
