Hello, i'm sure there is a post about this problem, but could'nt find it in the forum.....so here i go, My oil seem to be leaking from the middle of my engine. im pretty sure it isn't my turbos. so im guessing its my oil pan gasket. Does anyone know how to fix this leak? or what is the best way to stop it from leaking? thanks!

This is a common problem on our cars. Alot of people suggest using 'the right stuff' gasket sealer instead of an actual gasket. Also you should think about getting an oil pan brace. It will help prevent the leak from reoccuring. Banzai racing was doing an awesome holiday special on them. I forget when it ended, but you might be able to talk Chris into hooking you up still if it is over. Mine arrived with the quickness, in two or three days.

The banzai unit is a brace, and works very well. I wouldnt recommend using a gasket at all, use the Right Stuff silicone. The Brace goes underneath the sealing surface and around the belly of the pan, if that helps you visualize it better.

If you're not mechanically inclined, this job can be a real pain to attempt. You'll have to drop the front subframe and support the tranny. Make sure you clean both mating surfaces VERY well, I typically use at least one can of brake cleaner.

My 'new' engine (less than 10K) has developed a leak from somewhere...don't know if it is the pan gasket or not. When I got the motor from my builder (who'd taken a new reman and ported it and done some other work), it appeared to have copious amounts of a thick gray sealant around the pan...so I assumed the gasket had been left off and that good gray sealant (Right Stuff?) was used. I cannot pinpoint my leak, all I know is...it is driving me bat-****. I just spent $1300 to get the turbo lines replaced on my S80 as they were leaking like sieves and making my new garage floor shitty...and now my FD decides to leak!

There should not be tons of gray RTV squeezed out, this would be evidence of too much being used. The bad part is that if you have a large amount on the outside, then there is a equal amount that squeezed in, this will clog your pick-up tube. All of the "Right Stuff" RTV that we have locally is black.

i know this is kind of off topic, but i didnt want to create a new thread. so.... i want to ask ya if i should get a pettit ecu (unlimited), or a power fc?? i cant figure out which one is better? or whats the diffrence between both of them? can someone give me some adivce???? thanks!

Power FC is a fully programable standalone ECU, the pettit is a rechipped stock ECU that does not allow the user to change any of the settings. Go with the Power FC.

Ok, let's talk about the groove again.....

I explain in great detail in this thread, with pictures, why we intentionally do not have a groove in our brace. To make it short and sweet, machining a groove makes for an inferior seal

Attached is a picture of a factory FD UIM metal gasket. We use the same sealing properties incorporated into the stamped ridges of this gasket to provide a superior seal for the oil pan, by utilizing the pan ridge as a metal gasket. Mazda doesn't machine a groove into the UIM for the same reasons.
