Oil Pan Brace Question
Oil Pan Brace Question
when is this needed?
I'm expecting 360-380 hp and my engine builder plans to use the Permatex grey silicone (that's it)
is the Gotham or similar brace needed to prevent leaks? my last oil pan was fine with the Permatex red silicone
thanks

No additional noise. It only attaches to the oil pan itself and not to the subframe. I actually have one for sale, $100 shipped. Or you can pay full price through Gotham :-) It does work and does seal the pan far better than the stock, pressed pan sealing edge.
The original poster is asking about an oil pan brace. Not an engine torque brace...of any sort. It's just a ring that goes on the outside of the oil pan to help stiffen up the sealing surface of the oil pan. The stock pan is very thin metal and deforms easily, this brace takes care of that.

When I purchased mine, the bolts did not come with it. They could be purchased in addition to the brace but they were not included with the price. The cost wasn't realistic for me when I could simply go down to ACE and purchase the same bolts for less.
I made a brace for my pan from ss plate .200 thick .It uses longer ss bolts and lock washers.I got the idea from the D ring on the pan head Harley Davidson valve covers I built years ago . No gasket , just sealer .I did flatten the sealer trap grove so the ring ,brace, fit flat .I did not want to mill a grove in the ss brace ,to lazy .
