Question Oil Outlet Stud

I would like to use studs instead of bolts for my oil outlets to make gasket installation easier. Does anyone know the size to use? I am looking at page C-93 on the FSM but I don't see a part # to lookup to reference a stud and/or bolt size.

are you talking about the oil pan? or are you talking about the turbo drain return lines that go to the block?

either way, those are normal m6x1.0 threads, I think. if you pull the studs out, you'll want to tap them anyways to clean them out before you install a bolt. experiment with different size taps, but I'm pretty sure it's m6x1.0.

I'm referring to the two oil outlets on the block that return oil from the turbos. I don't have studs to pull so I don't have a reference to use.

are your studs bad or something? if they aren't why are you doing this?

it's not going to make gasket installation any easier. besides, once you install the gasket, you shouldn't have to replace it for a very long time.

I don't have studs, that's the problem. I've been using bolts.
It should make installing the gasket a lot easier since the gaskets will just sit in place on the studs while I install the turbos, instead of having to pinch the gasket into place between the block and pipe once the turbos are in place.

ah, then just find some m6x1.0 bolts that are at least 12mm long.

I guess by stud size I meant to ask overall length and length of each side of the spacer.

Why would I use bolts if I'm already using bolts and want to get away from them? I don't think you're following me.

ok, so I measured my studs on my block and they stick out 15mm. So you want the stud to thread into the block at least 5-6mm. So, something at least 20mm long. With a 5mm middle shank length (no threads) and 10mm worth of threads exposed outside the block.
