Oil mods during engine rebuild?

Hey guys,

I've seen lots of people talking about "oil mods" when they get their motor rebuilt. What's up with that? I've never heard of any oiling problems with FDs. FDs run higher oil pressure than TII motors.

Typical motor failure is either coolant o-ring leakage or chipped/broken apex seals.

Does anyone have any info on why you would want to modify the oiling system? I don't want to hear how you feel, I want to see pics and hear good techincal discussion.

Man usually everyone here knows everything. No one knows anything about this yet they are modding their oiling systems?

Witches brew?

I think they might be talking about adding a second Oil Cooler... since from what I understand it's much easier to install the Oil Lines if the engine is out....

I was thinking along the same lines...Pineapples "stage III" oil and coolant mod. Maybe just for cooling reasons.

Sorry to be no hlep and clutter the thread?!?!?! I'm curious too.

Jeff, on the Mazdamotorsports website, they sell the upgraded "racing" versions of several engine parts. Most of the upgrade consists of improved oil flow to different parts.

From this, I am conjecturing that the oil mods are mostly for engines that are running very high rpm for long periods of time. If you're not doing a lot of road racing, the mods are most likely just dollars out of your wallet.

hey Jeff

Well I had asked you about it since it seamed that you have seen quite a few engines, and most likely have a lot of experience with them in knowing just that, if it is just bullplop or if it actually has value for the price.

I just went up to pineapple and took a couple pics of all the old parts and bearings; though most did not turn out very good there is one pic that shows wear.

Whether it warrants going with the extreme oil mods I don’t know I have not seen a lot of engines to make that kind of decision.
But the guys up at pineapple seem to think so, so I did spend the extra money hoping that it is better for the higher loading that my engine will see.

Here is a pic though not as good as It could have been

Is the REPU project going to happen?

Jeffr, check out the Tech section at Mazda Motorsports. Only "oil" mods I know of are deleting the thermal pellet along with clearancing and grooving the rotor bearings.
