sry to bring up this post after such a long time, but is it bad to put MORE than enough oil? I put 5 quarts and the above manual says 3.7Quarts. Thats a big difference! My dipstick reads levels above Full. Putting more oil than supossed to will result in higher oil pressure and isnt that bad??
I have a R1 btw so im considering dual oil coolers

Yes, overfilling is a bad idea. Stop doing it!
I'm not sure which is scarier, the fact that someone had to start a thread on how much oil to add or the fact that he was answered incorrectly. Jeesh!

This is not a guessing game.
Drain the pan completely and add oil by reading the dipstick.
I mean its almost impossible to get every drip of oil out if you're doing a normal oil change. If you're on top of your oil changes, you dont need to be **** everytime you change it.
I just drain it, then when i see it drip, drip, drip. I just wipe the plug opening, then put the plug back and im done. IM sure there is some old oil in there but i dont care, im not gonna go crazy getting every single drop outta there.
Then i add about 3 quarts straight up, then i start reading the dipstick and i add little by little from there.

The capacity for Base/Touring/PEP and R1/R2 differ as the latter have 2 oil coolers.
Capacity changes if you have an aftermarket oil pan, or have aftermarket oil coolers.
My car with the GZ oil pan takes 5+ quarts. When I get done with the oil cooler upgrade it will be close to 6 quarts.
Drain, put in 3.5 quarts, let it set for 5 minutes, then check the oil level. Add as needed until you hit the full mark. You will then know just how much oil it takes to fill your car.
If you have dry sump, you should not even be asking this question.

Thats the way i do it, drain out oil until it starts to drip rather than flow out, put the plug back in, then i add 3.5 litres (Dont know how much a quart is) and fill from dipstick to just above halfway (Because i like to drive hard)
