Brand Loyalty

So im one on of those really annoying guys that prefers to pick a brand and STICK with it. Yeah i know its stupid and whatever but I rather not mix-match parts. So before i even start modding my pure stock 1999 FD I wanted to pick a brand and stay loyal. Obviously im not THAT stupid if one product is a whole lot better than another one then I would ditch my chosen brand but I have no problems paying $50 or so for a similar performing item. I have no problem buying online so thats not an issue. I was considering between several large brands I.E GReddy, HKS etc so far I think i am inclined to pick HKS however i heard that HKS USA and HKS Japan are totally different : If that is true I think HKS Japan would work out for me since I always wanted to stay with Japanese parts (They made the damn thing after all) But as usual i would like to hear the community's experience. Thanks in advance!

Vlad

There are very few companies that you can stick with that will make everything you need for your FD. Maybe you can stick with a brand for engine mods only and a brand for suspension, etc. Pics of your 99 FD please!

Yeah i know what you mean, i was gonna be a typical guy and go for HKS for Engine/Exhaust Tein for Suspension, K&N for filters :P lol. Predictable and not afraid to throw stupidly large amounts of money on my FD. Oh and my FD is on a boat from japan lol. Might be some time, need to pass it through customs and such

Im kinda kicking the idea around, but mostly by accident. Ive got a Blitz intake, and have a line on a Blitz SMIC with the blitz shroud. Itd be neat if I could find a blitz DP, if they make one.

I've always thought Greddy made good quality products, and I've always stayed away from HK$ electronics.....too many acronyms, too complicated.

Greddy makes great products all around except for the problems I have read about with the E-Manage and FD's, however I have never owned an E-manage so I cannot comment personally.

Greddy/Trust has almost all the products you could want to put on your FD, including my fav. exhaust of all time their Titanium exhaust (Ohh so sweet)

But I would say as above that in building your car you should take the best each brand has to offer and also that suits your build.

Finally, what do you plan to do with the car/up to what kind of level do you want to build it?

No company does everything 'great'. If you plan to only stick with one company, you will make compromises in certain areas of your car. Ever heard the phrase: Jack of all traits but master of none?

Skip the name picking and just concentrate on picking something which fits your needs for that particular part.

get your car built with parts from RE-Amemiya.

$200,000 later, you'll have the 20th best RX-7 in Australia... you guys really do have some badass rotaries down there..I'm jealous.

Sticking with a brand is great, but after replacing just about every part in my entire FD, and I mean EVERY part, it is really tough to do. I have to agree that doing research and picking the part that is the best suited for your needs will leave you with a plethra of different brands if you do it right.

93VR- Lancaster? You coming to JPR sunday?

Even the top tuners use different brand parts, so why should you limit yourself to one brand

fwiw, One my first FC Turbo IIs was all upgraded HKS components. Everything worked together quite well.

For the FD, their exhaust, intake, intercoolers and pretty good. However, most ECUs from other brands don't quite stack up to Apexi's Power FC if you are looking for a standalone ECU.

HKS is still one of the leading brands and have a lot of money to dump into R&D. That does't mean that other smaller companies/brands don't do a good job also on certain specific parts - Racing Beat for exhausts, SMB (in Au for exhausts) Blitz intercoolers, ASP intercoolers etc

Well Mazda sells everything you need, for one. I guess that makes me very much brand loyal to Mazda.

When you get pics, put them in the sticky thread at the top of the 3rd gen forum.
