Official - Mods Before Blown Engine - Thread

Ok so this is a simple thread that will gather modification info from those who had their engine go on them for any reason. Please provide these at the time when engine was blown:

1) Miles
2) Engine failure type (apex, coolant seals, fire, etc.)
3) Most recent 3 mods
4) Anything you think might have contributed to failure

Of course this wont prove much but maybe there will be a trend that will lead certain mods to blown engines. Ill list my stats probably sometime this summer

No need. too many variables. Keep it around 300 rwhp or so and boost in check and your motor will last many years. Don't overheat it and run 93 octane. done.

1) Milage:
Chassis: 68,000
Engine: 20,000
Turbos: 20,000

2) Engine Failure Type:
Chipped rear apex seal.

3) Most recent 3 mods:
Tranny swap, midpipe, simplified sequential system.

4) Anything you think might have contributed to failure
Clogged fuel filter, some would say midpipe however I was not overboosting.

So are the myriad number of possible causes for engine failure, along with the abuse/misuse/lack of maintenance/poor installation/wrong choice that can lead to those causes. And that's not counting the number of people who think they know why their engine popped, but in reality do not, or those who will state some other cause to cover up their own mistaken choices...

There's not really that much to think about. If you know your car well enough before you start modifying, and do those mods carefully following a general common sense like Rich's post, then you don't have to worry (or think) about it.

Engine Failure: Apex Seals/Fire
Recent Mods: SUBWOOFER!!! besides that i don't remember, it was a while ago
Cause: The cause of the failure was due to the subwoofer itself, the amp wire came in contact with the UIM and caught fire, destroying my alarm, abs and other stuff in that area of the engine compartment. The engine itself failed because of the snow outside(coldweather) and the ground from the UIM was burnt away as well. I was told all these things contributed to the blown apex seal.
