I don't "need" 3 mm seals, either, but want to do everything I can to ensure reliability, instead of skating by on the cheap

this debate is an endless do-loop, and it's really off topic anyhow

and what is so difficult about calibrating the MAP sensor?
How do you know your Autometer gauge is off? You have to compare it to something and your Boost reading on your Commander is very likely incorrectly calibrated. It doesn't matter that it is electronic. Have you ever heard of garbage in, garbage out?

There are several "difficulties" with calibrating the MAP sensor...

1. Lack of calibrated absolute pressure gauges.
2. Many relative pressure "boost" gauges are not very accurate. Further, converting to absolute pressure based on accurate elevation and barometric readings increase the errors.
3. Lack of understanding about the PowerFC and pressure.
4. Laziness. Most tuners use the PIM scale and offset that requires the least amount of work to their current maps. Most are too lazy to use a Mity-vac or compressed air and a couple of gauges for testing. If they already have usable maps then they don't want to change their PIM scale and offset and P-rows because then retuning is required.
5. Resistance to change. I seem to be the only one that has managed to fairly accurately calibrate the PowerFC MAP sensor as evident by my PowerFC boost readings agreeing with my boost gauges for all pressures. Many think it can't be done because of a bug in the PowerFC. They think the world is flat and no one is interested in or understand my radical ideas that say otherwise even though I've already been to America on the other side of the world.

because it was checked with a much higher quality gauge during tuning

I doubt it...again, I've driven the car for two years now, boosting to almost 16 psi (as measured by the Commander) on 93 pump with no issues

*sigh*

blah

ok, we got it, the world will be saved by mity-vac and proper calibration I think your long winded diatribe is better suited to the PFC sub-forum

Well, this thread has run it's course. In the end, the stock map sensor can read 17 PSI. Should it be done? That's up to the individual.
