the bolts inside the passenger side door handle area will usually come loose. check to see if you hear noise from that side, then tighten all the bolts inside. also the glove box.

Recently I had to do a few laps around Logan airport while waiting for someone to arrive. The pavement has an extreme rough texture that makes the whole car vibrate even at 10mph. Out of boredom I spent the time trying to figure out the source of various rattles.
Here are the the sources I found:
(1) the plastic clam shell that covers the steering wheel shaft. Hard to believe, but it was the biggest contributor.
(2) the front panel of the instrument cluster.
(3) driver side door (pressing down on the panel didn't help so I think it may be a wire or connector smacking against something.
(4) top of the center console.
When I have some time I'm going to do the following:
(1) coat all mating surfaces with a sound damper
(2) secure everything with stronger bolts/clips

I have eliminated 95 pct of my rattles. Here are the sources of mine and what I did to fix.
1) Glove box. yes Im serious. There was a coming from the dash. It was a terrible rattle when I would slow down over bump surface. one day when the noise was happening while i was driving i grabbed the metal bar under the glove box and the noise went away. Took my hand off it came back on. I ended up spraying the glove box area with WD40 (where it connects near the passenger door). Then I taped over the metal bracket that holds the glove box on. Noise has never returned.
2) in the same general area I was getting noise really loud. For cosmetic reasons I replaced the dash defrost vents (mine were cracked). Those noises went away.
3) Rear speakers, both sides. I found that when I hit a bump or on bumpy road there was a vibrating sound in the back. It turned out to be resonating from my speakers. My stereo could be turned off and the noise would still happen. I removed my speakers and put takp over the metal brackets, screwed the speakers in and then taped over the metal edges. The way I tested to make sure it was my speakers was to pull up on one end of the speaker and let go. same sound. keep in mine that the speakers were secured very tight and the noise still occured (Pioneer 6 X 8).
3) Sunroof. When the sunroof was open there was a "boing" "boing" noise. Drove me nuts. It was a connector from the inside of the sunroof. I secured the loose connector.
Outstanding Issues: Guage cluster sometimes squeeks. I plan to remove it and put some sound deadening material or foam to soak up the noise. Doesn't happen too often so Im not as worried.
Hatch: my hatch latch is worn out. . I have to put a piece of tape over the striker to keep it from rattling. I guess I need a new lock assembly?
hope that helps william.
